Hot rotor/hub??

The last few days I have noticed that the front driver side front hub and rotor on my 1994 Land Cruiser are getting very hot. The passenger side is cool to the touch.

I think it is the 4 piston caliper sticking. There is no brake dust, nor are the pads wearing quickly though..

I did jack up the vehicle. There seems to be no excessive play. The wheel rotates easily. I took the wheel off and it was difficult to turn the rotor/hub. Once I removed the caliper it was easy.

I did not take the spindle/hub off to check the bearings, but I felt no unusual wear/tightness or noise.

I ordered a rebuilt caliper (not much more than a caliper rebuild kit).

I will service the bearings at the same time.

Did I diagnose this properly? Could it still be the bearings? Sure hope I didn't burn up the spindle.

Im sure your bearings are fine, just think how hot that rotor gets with heavy breaking. New caliper should fix your problem. I have had them stick on a few of my trucks over the past..

it could also be the rubber brake hose sometimes the inside of the hose deterates and the rubber inside will block the fluid and keep it from returning to the master cyclinder and acts like a check valve I'd change that too while your at it

when those 4 piston calipers get age on them they love to stick. On the older stuff we put the calipers right in the estimate right from the start. If they are ok and push back fine we leave them.

If the temp between the fronts are noticeably different then your on the right track.

You need to do your rotation check immediately after a drive. Letting it sit sometimes for only a couple of min can give you a false feel.

Walt is right.
And Like towmonster said also i have seen a few flex lines do as he described.

It happened on my Voyager van. BOTH sides.

I had both calipers set right up on my chevy after a long busy winter of plowing, sat for like a month then neither would work !

Thanks everyone!

Two rebuilt NAPA caliper and everything AOK.

Autzone calipers $55
Napa Calipers $72
Toyota rebuilt $305 OUCH..

Napa and autozone are probably the same rebuild company.. But Napa is near work..

Still stops like an overloaded boat..
