Ok! This is my first post, glad to find this site. I've been plowing for about 12 years currently using a GMC 94 K2500 w/Meyers 7'6" max plow with an E-47 pump. This year I got rid of my 79 Ford second truck and bought a 05 GMC HDK2500 and had a new Meyers 7'6" Max plow with an E-60 installed on it. So here's the glitch, a week ago we went through the preseason tests and the new truck the plow pump will lift about half way then the overload light comes on on the touch pad (same situation with the angle). Turned off and back on it will go up some more then same overload situation. (Granted this is under warrantee and I am following up with the dealer) On the first trip back to the dealer, he swapped out the touch pad (thinking it was bad) same problem. He said it was a new one on him, and told me to call back in a couple of days after he checked with Meyers. Today he said he was told it was likely a bad ground connection (orange wire at the battery terminal). It is a two hour trip to the dealer so I thought I'd check it out. Same problem. The motor works fine, just cuts out with the overload light. Could the motor be drawing too much amperage? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.:feedback

Did you or he pull the motor end cap? You might be surprised at what you find. Those motors tend to accumulate moisture in them. I have seen all the carbon brush springs except one, snapped due to rust. Meyer released an updated motor with a ground lug on it, requiring a jumper wire from the new ground, to the old one. Then I am told they switched back, why, I have no idea. The oxidation that builds up between the pump housing (aluminum) and the base of the motor (steel) is a real problem as far as getting a good ground for the motor.

Chuck,
Thanks for the response. No none of the suggestions you gave were discussed. The thing is it is an 05 plow on an 05 truck, never seen winter, just the ride back to my shop in August. This came up a week ago when we were doing preseason checks.

Could your plug coming out of you truck be bad? Sounds like you get some power but then it looses it connection. I see you are from Oxford. My Uncle has a business in the Kroger Plaza there. Good Food check it out. It is called Spaghetti's.

Thanks for the responses. Cowboysfan, that is what I plan on doing, I'm just not sure when the service manager,(who I have done a lot of buisness with and do happen to trust) says "it's a new one on me" makes me wonder. I thought I'd worship at the alter of the forum's collective wisdom. (How's that for a line?). Young pup, been to spagetties not bad. The dealer suggested I check the orange ground wire, did it, no help. It is going back to Cincy on Wednesday for yet another trip. Kind of a PIA.

Resolved! Just a bad solinoid sending too much amperage to the motor...huh go figure. Case closed.
