I'm looking at a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD Auto Quad cab short bed. I've left a voice mail asking about the 53 block and lift pump/ fuel pressure. What else should I be looking for besides the normal door rust and front end parts? Truck looks real clean and fits my needs very well. They are asking 16995. It also just turned 100K. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
It also includes a very nice contractor cap. :smokin1

I wouldn't be worried about the 53 block,or the lift pump. The lift pump is easily replaceable if it fails.
Just give the truck a good once over.Pay attention to the front end,as parts are pricey.Make sure the trans shifts good too, with no slippage.
These trucks are getting harder and harder to find in good shape,at the right price.I'd take it,even if it has a few small flaws.

Thanks for the reply Wyldman. They verified it was not a 53. They also stated that it would be checked over as if it were going to be certified which it will not be because of mileage. This is coming from a Chevy dealership in NJ. Does anyone know anything about Crane Chevrolet in Clifton NJ? The truck is on ebay but I don't have the item # handy. Thanks again.
You can always ask to take it to a diesel shop or do it yourself, it's not a big deal to do a fuel pressure check on it. Like Chris said, lift pumps are not hard to replace but if the one that is on it has been bad for a while then your looking at problems down the road with VP-44 and believe me it isn't cheap to replace/rebuild one of those.
I replaced my lift pump with an Air Dog system and now carry a steady 17 lbs of fuel pressure. If the VP-44 goes I know it wasn't the fault of the fuel delivery system.
Other than that I'd offer 16k and hope they bite.

I have to ask why not worry about the block if it was a 53?

While some of the 53 blocks were prone to cracking, many did not. It's a small percentage of the blocks out there, and most of the ones that will crack, already have.It doesn't seem to be much of an issue anymore.
Also, there were very few 53's in the 2001 MY pickups,so it would rare to see one, even more rare if it cracked.
