is there a "right" way of freeing up your c-valve, i called meyers and they said to free up my c-valve to make it work temporalily, any ideas

Take it out, soak it in kerosene, and blow it out with an airhose. Try that

Not always the case, you can clean a dirty valve and have it fully operational for years.
But that may not be the case if the valve is damaged in anyway such as from being over loader and distorted from a pressure spike from hitting a curb etc.

After soaking, I inserted a clean plastic rod up into the spool and worked it back and forth a few times.
