Welcome to the site. My best piece of advice for you would be to hit up the search button. This topic will come up often in older threads here on the site and you will find tons of useful info as to the pros and cons of each for driveways/parking lots/dirt roads/gravel/etc..............

Good Luck!!!

happy searching..............

Full trip on a straight blade, trip edge on a V plow. You will hate a trip edge on gravel, dirt and stone,it will trip constantly and the stones will get wedged between the moldboard and edge, bending it all up and making a mess.

It depends on your accounts. If they are mostly gravel, then full trip would be the way to go, they do less damage and move less gravel. If you have a lot of pavement, then I've found a trip edge scrapes better. In heavy wet snow a full trip will often fold over and leave a film of snow behind, I didn't get that from trip edge plows.

I think John's point on the damage incurred must depend on the brand of plow. I had a couple Diamonds with the trip edge and never had any damage occur to them due to gravel.

Trip Edge.

I did my street which has 6 houses on it. Everyone had driven over the snow and compacted it. The Fisher pealed it up like takeing the skin of an orange.

The other reason could be because its a Fisher.

I have a 1000 foot gravel drive and I've used both. I've used my Dad's full trip Western and it did a good job. Last fall I got a Fisher with the trip edge and I like it better. We get heavy, deep, lake-effect snow and the Fisher got rid of it all the first pass through. The Western couldn't push that far before dumping it. I bought the curl-top option to funnel the snow to the side better and that might give the Fisher an advantage for doing a long run like that. I have'nt had a problem with the gravel so far although my driveway WAS a lot smoother/leveler this spring when all the white stuff went away! It makes a great bulldozer!
Good luck. - Tim

Personally, I think they both work well. We have both in sizes from 9-18 ft and they all get the job done. It's sure alot easier changing the springs on a full trip but trip edge springs seem to not break as much. So imo you can't go wrong with either.
