I'll start this out.

The reason I was interested in this forum is an e-mail problem I'm having. Some slime ball is e-mailing me a virus using my own account as a return address. I'm getting about a dozen of these a day. Norton catches it, but it locks up incoming e-mail until I clear the virus. I have to manually delete each one before Norton will release the e-mail program.

I set up my filter to filter out mail from my account, but that still activates Norton. Is there any way to stop this, or any organization to contact that would put an end to this? It's driving me nuts!!!

Thanks!

Is there a way to add your own address to the spam blocker through your ISP? That should stop it before it gets to your inbox.

I get a lot of them too. But Norton won't do anything unless I try to download an attachment. I just delete them.

Can you delete them from your inbox without looking at them? I mean you know you didn't send yourself mail....

My webmaster@spc address is a favorite of spammers and virus senders. Guess it is a nice valid one. You also have to remember that viruses grab addresses from infected computers address books. No doubt based on who else is on the recipient list of the mails I get, someone got infected. Just got one today, from a United Rentals address. It was my name, and 10 other local landscapers addresses on the mail.

You getting the e-mails to and from your domain e-mail address? That's where I get mine from. At and from djdarknez.com

It certainly isn't someone hacking into your computer or anything, that's for sure. They're just manually inputting it.

As for blocking them...well...depends on your software. If it's Outlook or anything like that, you can make a new filter.

I've got it set up to go straight to my deleted box, but with the attached virus it activates Norton and locks up the program until I manually delete them.

It is coming from my website, about 10 to 20 variations a day!

Yep, I get 'em too. You can take a look at the headers and see who it's really coming from.

That's really odd. I mean, it's not like you've ever gotten on anybody's bad side, is it? ;)

Nice digger. lol

I may not be understanding this correctly, but can't you set Norton up to automatically delete the virus? I thought that was one of the options.

Perhaps so Mark. I only utilize a fraction of my computer's abilities due to my ignorance. I'll have to go hunting within Norton. Thanks for the tip.

Somebody had to tell me about that option, so I know exactly what you are referring to. Not sure if it will even solve the problem, either, but it's worth a shot. Hope it works for you.

Under the Anti-Virus options of Norton, there is a selection of what to do with a virus when it is found. I believe that "Automatically Repair" is the default option. But there is a choice for "Silently repair and delete if unsuccessful" I think that should take care of your problem.

As someone else already mentioned, you could look at the headers ans should be able to tell where it is really coming from.

Thanks Mark and Rob, I seem to have this under control now. I'm still receiving these e-mails, but they now go straight to the trash bin without tying up Outlook Express. Success!!

Glad it worked out for you.

Should still take a look at the headers to see if you can determine where it is really coming from. Maybe a friend has a virus problem that they are not aware of.
