I have been considering attempting to start a Chicago area gathering of snow plowing contractors. Meaning the burbs.
When I was in the Mall Security business I began a gathering of Security Directors in the Bay area, Ca. In two years we had about 45 members and would have quaterly meetings at different locations hosted by different members. It was mainly for sharing information on how each of were dealing with diffeerent but the same type of situations. From that experience I learned that we were all encountering the same types of issues and eack of us had a ways to face issues that sometimes worked and sometimes did not.
Sure seems like it would be the same with snow plowing. I realize that it comes down to the fact that most of us own our business and we all think that we have some big secret way of getting business, but as we look around it is more like there is more business out there than any one of us could ever do. Everyone is always over booked or by the end of the season ends up with more work than thay wanted.
So why not get togahter and talk about what we all are doing locally and see how we can set up a network where we can refer business and pass along information about good customers and bad ones too.
I know I have to say "no" to alot of work just because of coverage area. This could be a huge source of referal business if I was networked with a few other contractors that I knew were doing a good job and could be trusted as a good referal.
Chicago is such a large area and from burb to burb there is so much business out there. Maybe we could try to work togather networking a system that gets us more of the business where each of us would like to have it. Thus helping us in improving service to our customers, reducing coverage areas and inproving margins.
Well enough of that, if anyone thinks they might at all be interested or anyone that might have any suggestions, post, PM, or Email me.
