Hi all, just wanted to get as much information as I can as to what truck to buy when I have the funds available (I'm sure you all know what that's like!). I don't put too many miles on it, as I am a college student and my college is literally 5 min from my house. I don't need anything fancy, just something that will be very reliable and I won't need to worry about plowing, as I do with my 1/2 ton. I would really like to go with either a Ford or Chevy with a diesel, anything else doesn't really matter. I know that diesels will last longer, and many have higher miles than gassers, but how many miles is too high? Anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for? Should I go with a 3/4ton or 1 ton, as there does not seem to be much of a difference in price? I will not be buying until prob around spring time, but just want to be as knowledgable as possible. Thanks for any suggestions!!

I can't offer much advice, but i will say that just driving 5 miles to and from your truck wont even warm up. I know on mine it takes about that long just get it into operating range unless i let warm up for 5+ minutes first. Then it is just warmed up at about 5 miles. So you might be better off with just a gasser.

I 2nd what David said. The truck will hate that drive. You would be much better off with a gasser. For the same money, you can get a much nicer gasser over a diesel.

If you really want a diesel for those short trips, find a VW Golf\Jetta diesel. It will get excellent mileage, and it will warm up quickly.

Using a big diesel pickup for short trips like that is a waste.
