View Full Version : Boston's snowplow budget shot
I just read that the amount that Boston's snowplowing budget was wiped out with with this last storm. Allocated - $15 million. Spent to date - $17 million. Gov Romney has asked Pres Bush for help.

Boston always wipes out its budget in the first or second storm . Its a long standing game they play. Especially now that they have to save up for the big convention

They usualy dont go over in Toronto here it ends up into a pool and they use it next year or use it to fix the roads, but for some reason the roads dont get fixed..
Why does boston play that game ? So they can get money from the White House since they estimated too low and do they usualy get the money ?

Is that the budget for the season, or a shortage for 2003?

Thats a seasonal budget. The cities and towns always estimate on the low side knowing that the snow budget is the only item that they are allowed to spend above the cost and tack it on to next years budget. That and the fact that Boston recieved 25-30 inches of snow have not helped. The city is still trucking snow tonite even after all the rain we recieved and the cost of that is huge, 90-110$ per hour for loaders and dumps. Not to mention the overtime for city workers and police details.

What a joke!!!
Aren't your Senators supposed to be big time opposed to deficit spending? I guess within the State is OK....

DITTO - got snow. How in the world do you keep track of billing hours during a strom like that WITHOUT GPS??
So where are all the guys saying how they would never be able to make any money plowing in Mass. even with GPS?? Over $17M spent on the 1st storm and there is three more months left in the season. The contractors up there complaining about not making any money having to drive their Lexus SUV to the bank for loans to pay bills because the state is a slow pay. With those kind of numbers year after year, I think I would float a loan to see a six figure check in April or even May. Maybe I can move to Boston just for the winters:cash :cash :cash :cash

The years that we got no snow and had plenty left over should of gone into a savings account for next years snow plus what every they have to allocate for that year and look at it as a bonus .But in the accounting dept I guess you just can't do that so if there is any left over it's wasted .Like a time they salted my stree near the end of snow season with just a 1/2 of snow on the ground and left enough salt to make that look like the snow that it was melting. All they know how to do is waste our money .Just like the big dig party over a million for the Lets see:rolleyes: 3rd one > were in the hole and they can have a party Go figure.

They had a party for the opening of the Ted Williams & the Leonard Zakim Bridge that I can remember, enough is enough. They are $12billion+ over budget. $12billion and they want to take money that was meant to upkeep the Turnpike and new project provided by Citizens Bank and have them selves a good ol' time. Come on now!!!!!!! :beatsme
