Magic Salt prices?

Bulk salt is out of the question right now, (can't take 25 tons just yet, into my back yard). I have been buying "super sacks" of a product Ice Slicer from Envirotech. Each sack weighs 2600lbs or so.

I was just quoted $140 a ton. What are you guys paying?

Howard, around here for a 55 gal drum is $133. Its $35 more from last feb when I bought it. I think the people over at magic think there selling gas. I think this year I will only use straight salt.

www.magicsalt.info... you will pay between 12-14$ a bag depending on the distributor. It will cover 1500-2000sf. Same as a bag of calcium.

There is three dealers for Magic in Mass so we would need to know the general area were you are. IE: Boston North, Boston South, Framingham, or Springfield.

First i am new to the whole magic salt situation . I bought 2 pallets from Peter couple of weeks ago and i have tryed it very impressive however my question is what customers are you selling this stuff to.?

You say 12-14 dollars a bag thats 686.00 dollars a pallet i would be hard pressed to even come close to billing that and turning a profit. I assume on the east coast there must be a big shipping cost involed has Tom PineIsland can sell it to me for 6.75 a bag at that price i can afford to at least mix it threw the spreaders. I know every state and area has big swings in cust demands and what customers will pay for salt apps but around here nobody would even consider the stuff at the prices your stating.

Iam paying 230 a pallet for bagged rock salt which equals 2450lbs i can buy my bulk at 50 a ton iam just looking at ways to sell this stuff to customers without being blow out the door.

I have been using what i have here at the shop and it is great stuff last longer and worked better today in the low temps we had compared to regular rock . another question is it just the load i got or is this stuff suppose to be wetter than bulk salt i have left my tarp off , i have not tryed to run it threw a single stage spreader and dont think i would try has i think its way to wet.Just curious on why all the diff price swings i see like i said before Tom who is about two hours west of me is either being a great guy to me and selling it for what he is or somebody is really lining there pockets at 9-14 dollars a bag.

I have been buying it from Tom now for two years, he seems to be cheaper than most guys. I use it on the sidewalks because it leaves alot less residue to be tracked in to the office's. I was told to use half of the amount of regular rock salt, thats where the savings are, less product but more benfits. Melts at a lower temp and leaves a film for the next snow or ice event. If you are using alot of bulk the way to go is buy the liquid and spray your own rock salt.
Yes it is alot wetter than bulk salt, I have about 1/2 pallet left from last winter stored in my garage all summer, just used some on a sidewalk and it is still pretty damp but still loose. I hope on my many trip up north along US-10 I never have to use you, that road can be a bear at the holidays.

He is indeed a nice guy. I am told that both of the midwest dealers are really swell folks.

The price swings are related to how much a dealer buys which impacts his price, and when it was purchased. The shippers have significantly increased shipping charges to cover fuel expenses.

That said, quantity also impacts price. ie full load, part load, full pallets, part pallets, etc.

Most are doubling the price paid.

You can run Magic through a single stage spreader. A vibrator helps.

Factory bagged Magic tends to be pretty well saturated with the goo which is what makes it work so well.

That sounds like a re-wholesaler price. A term coined by someone at GoldStar years ago and later came to maturity with the likes of Cavicchio. Most of these new "wholesale" companies used to have "contractor" pricing but now its "wholesale". A way to see what is really going on is to find out who is collecting the taxes. A wholesaler sells to another company who will then retail the product and collect the user taxes (and pay it to the Commonwealth). If you are the end user then it's just fancy language for your discount.

I'd be looking toward the South Shore or Metro-West or even RI for a distributor.

I guess iam a bussman from the old school days i fully understand buying and selling wholesale and retail i run a Automotive repair shop and parts are much the same way being a Napa autocare center i could take some serious parts markets ups but stand to out price myself so i go with a common method of .168 on mark up.

When you say the bigger the dealer the better the prices on Magic guess not picking on you Lush but you would seem like a rather large magic dealer and its prices of 12-14 dollars a bag:huh . My question still stands how do you approach your cleints with this out ragous price per bag? and how do they sell it to there cust's without giving it away and at that price i would have to say at least here in the snow belt you would be applying it for free and i doubt making anything on the product.

I have found two doctors offices that called me after the first salt run which i used Magic they were more curious has to what the brown stuff was a day later they called to say it was still melting after we had a overnight dusting , iam thinking mmmmmmmmmm i might have sold two people on it when i told them 9bucks a bag to apply they said ok lets stick with rock salt.

I have funny enough found that i sold some to myself lol and three other garages i work with has we dont get the tracking white chalk all over our equipment, funny mechanic's end up wanting to buy the most. Anyway guess i was still looking for a answer to who pays the 9-14 and makes money just really curious.

I am not sure how Tom can sell his bags for that price but I don't think he is a dealer for Taconic. The prices I quoted are what we sell our salt to contractors for. A trailer of bags will be cheaper. We sell the bags in stores here and at the shop retail for $18.99 no problem. I think you will find this the same with any of the dealers. Magic Salt should not be compared to salt in a bag. It is not even close to being the same or having the same results. It works much better and longer. Similar pricing to calcium with out the negative effects. We throw a bag down for $40+ or so, no problem. But we don't have to go back as often but profit just as much.

In NH we pay $14 a bag and if i were to buy something like 10 pallets could get a discount of $.50 a bag. Which I don't mind paying because the stuff works great and when used right will still save you money. Don't forget the guy selling you the bag is a business and needs to make money too. He has a cost assocaited(rent/storage). When his prices go up yours prices should go up. This is a great product that is pretty easy to sell to customers.If anyone is having problems selling it, one thing i tell customers is my salt cost more than someone else sand, but you won't have to fix the grass and spring clean-up will be almost nothing. You can be creative and still get the price you want.

I too think Tom is a nice guy, had a great conversation with him and he opened my eyes as to why he can price Magic the way that he can. Because he is not buying his bags from a middle man he is able to sell his product at a lower cost. I personally can not buy my bag material as cheap as he can, actually I am paying more than what he is selling his bags for, and I am re-selling it just fine. People really see the value as to what this product can do for them. More power to Tom for getting into this business at the right time. All the dealers who are through Taconic buy their bags from Taconic, who buys from IMUS. The middle man has done all the work getting these distributors set up throughout the areas that they are in, to be able to bring this product to you, the consumer, so sure they need to make some money also. This is how the price changes between a Magic Distributor, or whatever Tom is called, and a distributor set-up by Taconic. It is a little confusing but to understand this plays a large part on why there are some large price differences between these types of distributors, and why some people can sell to some areas and not to others.

I picked up some from RCS in Rochester NY for $ 8.25 a bag (50? lbs.)
Rock salt is only a few bucks cheaper and Magic works better !
