Can anyone point me in the correct direction? I know you can not give direction to the blind, I'll get that out before anyone else says it, but I am looking for a 12' or longer low profile v-box spreader. Gas motor driven. I have looked at Buyers, Hi-way and Sno-way and the only thing I can find is a 10' low profile v-box spreader. Is there anybody who makes a 12' or longer spreader that isn't 5-6' tall? If I go with a 10' v-box that puts the box exactly centered over the rear axle but I do not feel it is enuff weight to keep the flat nose trucks, front tires on the ground.I have 5' from center of rear axle to the rear edge of the flat bed on our '04 Fuso fertilizer truck. I think it would be advantagous to have more weight on the front of the truck. The overall length of the bed is 14'. If the overall length of the wheel base was shorter this would not be an issue. The 10' spreader on this bed would be like putting an excavator all the way at the rear of a trailer and taking the weight off the tongue when going down the road. I feel if I had 7' of the v-box over the center of the rear axle I would be able to control the truck better? What would someone say to this thought?

You'll probably have to have one done custom, or trim it with a plasma cutter. See the attached link for dimensions. Warren and Bonnel both do some custom stuff for the snow and ag markets.

The weight of the empty box, and where it balances isn't going to be a problem with the 10' box and it might not be a problem even loaded, as COE trucks are notoroiusly heavy on the front axle. Where you will run into a problem is the center of the load will move backwards as the box empties. At some point you will have a box that is half full,, the back half, and that may cause problems with either length. Every vee box I've seen always empties the front first.

Just add some pallets of something in front of V box to off set weight.
I was thinking the same thing as Dave while reading this. But then one might have to be real careful of the overall weight issues? A full salter, plus ballast in front of it might create an issue with this truck (having no idea what it can handle)? Something to consider though, instead of the expense of custom surgery of a larger spreader.

Look at a brand called Ice-O-Way. They are made by Southford Truck Equipers in Southbury CT. They are the originator of the swing away chute. I have had good luck with my Ice O Way.

Not for nothing but a 12' sander sounds like a aweful lot of weight for a cabover, unless it is a 26k or 33k GVW truck. I have an 8' box on a 14' UD, and crowned it is comfortable. Could prob get 3yds of material on it legally without having a problem at 18K.
If you have a short wheelbase and your axle is in the center of the bed, I think you'll have a problem either way.
