Hello everyone. I want to thank everyone for the help in picking out a plow for my new GMC, even though you guys didn't know you were helping me as I was lurking!!. Anyway here is my dilema... I just purchased an '03 ultramount 7'-6" barely used off of e-bay, but I need the mount kit for my trucka nd wiring harness. The Mount Kit is self explanatory, but I think I need help with what all I need for the wiring harness(es). I talked to 2 dif dealers today and each one gave me different kits. I consider myself pretty handy, but vehicle wiring is not my forte and the possibilty of messing up my new truck scares me! Anyway both dealers told me that the installation was VERY simple, but time consuming. Both asked me if the seller included the " Isolation Module". He did not and I don't even know what one is!! They say this a pretty expensive part. One gave me a price and said it was included in the wiring harness kit, and the other one said it was not included and gave me a total different price.
Anyway, if anyone can shed some light on this dark area for me I would appreciate it. I would like a some parts #'s of ALL the items I would need from you Snow Plow Gods and also if there are any good net dealers whom you would recommend buying from in here if my local guys can't get this right!
By the way, I have checked the Western website, but it did not help me as I did not know what I was looking at. My truck is a 2005 GMC 2500 HD E/C, Plow prep Pkg, 6.0 L, AT.
Thanks in advance for any and all input to help out a newbie here!

I left a PM back for you crash, but if this info will help anyone else my setup has 3 plugs total, one 11 wire male, one 11 wire female and one male plug with 2 heavy guage wires. All wrapped in a black-weaved caseing. It is originally from an '04 0r '05 Dodge 3500 Deisel. Thanks again!

Got your info, sent you PM, will post part numbers here also for anyone else who might need them.

If necessary, what other kits would have the same isolation module that I could possibly buy cheap off of e-bay. I know I probably won't find a complete wiring harness for an '05 GM, but the way it sounds the modulator is the expensive part for it. Thanks to any and all for your help!

KDOG................Your truck does have the VYU plow prep.

If so the wiring is all plug n play ! The Dodge wiring harness and the
lights won't work without cobbing it.

You will have to buy the complete underhood harness with the module
(1 piece) approx. $250
Plus the headlights AND harness (1 piece) approx. $175.

I paid almost $500 last year (labor included) at the Western dealer.

The wiring harness(s) and plow lights off my 01 Chevy wouldn't work
on my 04 without cobbing..............

The push bar (carton) off my 01 swapped right on.
Your Dodge one won't work without mods.
New one is approx. $400.............

Ya could post on the parts wanted section. Maybe somebody has
one for sale !
AND
Click on JERREs Service banner above.
Give him a call...............He may have one used at a fair price!

BTW: Go to the Western site and use their quick match.
It will tell you the exact part #s and such!

The wiring harness kit you need is part no 27780, this has a lighting control harness for truck side, a drivers side and passengers side vehicle lighting harness and an isolation module.

You will still need a motor solenoid (part no 56131k) and a 22" battery cable (part no 22511), a battery cable assy and a plow control harness.

My wife hid my big book with all of my numbers, here response was "its 90 outside, why are you worried about plows now". i will dig out the other part nos and suggested list price so you dont get the shaft from some dealer.

Thanks for that input Sonjaab!!
So are you guys telling me that even the headlights will NOT work off the mount I got??

By the way, I do not have anything from the Dodge to even attempt on, not that I would, so that is not an option. Maybe my best bet is to just drop it off at the dealer and say "Here, make it work!"

My local dealer did tell me that if I can get the Isolation module off of the Dodge it will work. But as of yet still no return e-mail from the seller.

Yes my truck does have the Plow Prep pkg.

So are you telling me that any Ultramount GM mount will work from say 2000 on? If so that should be a little easier to find.
Thanks!

The existing plow lights will plug into the new GM truckside harness.
Only thing..The bright lights won't work on the plow just
the low beams (unless you cob it). The signal and markers
SHOULD work !

NOTE: Western used 2 model truck side harnesses. 1 used a series of
6 "fuses". The newer one uses a module.

I tried to use the 01 lights and plow side harness (1 piece) on the 04
and that is how it worked for me.............
So I spent the bucks and got the new plowside lights and harness.
Dealer would NOT cob it for me. Either they didn't know how
or didn't want a headache down the road..............

No problem...They have treated me well.

The pushbar (carton) from any 99 and up 2500 NBS should
work and its for a ultra mount (NOT unimount)................geo

The headlights will work, there is only one set of headlights for the isolation module lighting (part no 64100) and will only plug into the iso lighting harness.

geo, if i remember right you are using the relay system which has 2 different headlight part no's depepnding on the year of the gm truck.

As for the mount, yea, any gm 2500 new body style mount will work, however there are 3 different versions of that mount, 2 will require you to cut the bumper in the area below the tow hooks. The third requires no cutting. I wish i could teel you there is a mark on the mounts to help you tell the difference but there isnt, its one of those thing that you have to see enough of them to know the difference, the only thing you could do is ask for their receipt and look for part no 67981-2, you dont have to cut the bumper with that mount.

heres your list of parts

27780 isolation module lighting kit for gm list $273
(green label)

63411 vehichle battery cable assy list $53

26345 vehicle side control harness list $182

56131k motor solenoid list $12

22511 22" battery cable list $9

67981-2 GM 2500 mount list $413

If you can get the complete harness from the old truck you will be able to use the motor solenoid, battery cables, vehicle lighting harness and vehicle control harness, you will not be able to use the isolation module itself or the vehicle headlight harness'.

You may want to also try getting ahold of Arc Burn from this site (search under members), he is a fisher dealer in upper new york and will have all of the electrical parts.

Thanks alot for all those part #'s there Crash! With all your info I could finally go into all those schematics and actually see what I needed. As far as I can tell that is all the necessary stuff. My only question would be is since I already have the horns that bolt to the mount kit, is there anything on your list that I would not need or is that part of the mount kit?
I know that the guy I purchased the plow from will not take off the electrical kit from his truck so I will need to purchase it all. Now if only something will pop up used it will be awesome. I will wait it out a little but I don't want to procrastinate too long so i see myself just ordering it.
I actually redceived all the installation instructions with the plow so i was able to read over them once I knew which schematic to look at and it really looks simple. The dealer wants to charge me $300 to install, but it looks easy enough and not near $300 worth of work involved to me. The steel mount has to be relatively simple, so I am not worried about that.
Will Arc Burn sell these parts for below list or am I just going to have to realize that if I want them there are NO alternatives to the stealers pricing? It is SOOO hard to beleive that $40 worth of steel in that mount kit will rack me $400+!! Oh well.
Thanks again to both of you. I can only hope to someday be able to pay you guys back for going out of your way and scraping up this info for me even though I am way behind the learning curve to you. I guess I will just have to "Pay It Forward" to some other newbie down the road.

CRASH.........Yea my 01 stuff had the 6 fuse set up. Thats why I
needed the different plow lights with the module harness for the 04.
Too bad it won't work on K-dogs rig. I would let it go for a song !
EDIT: Was thinking...If the lights that came with k-dogs plow are
from a fused harness instead of a module harness they will have to
be replaced................

Somebody around here will be looking for one sooner or later !

K-Dog...See how $pendy it can be buying a used set up off a different
brand or year truck? I hope you paid a reasonable price for that set
up versus buying new.............

$300 for labor? eekkk........
The Gms are mostly plug n play..........If your handy you should be able
to instaLL yourself..............If not let the dealer do it...........
For the push bar and wiring harness your at the dealers mercy !

Did ya call Jerres Service to see if he had a used push bar?

Yeah sonjaab, I think I did alright. My setup is like new and I gave 2 grand for it. so if I spend another $800 on it I am still close around $1500 to the good. To be totally honest though, I did call to 2 local dealers before I did it and they both said the parts to swap one over would be "around $500." Obviously it doesn't hold any water to moan about there off-the-cuff quote now, but I really was not expecting $800 to $1000 in parts or I probably would have considered a new one a little harder with the warranty. All dealers around here quoted me about $4500 give or take. I just didn't realize what a PITA it was going to be to find the parts at a reasonable price. At least now i know what I ned to get it done.

John,

I think you mean the receiver pockets when you say horns, they are part of the plow assy and are not part of the mount.

If you have some mechanical abilities and tools, you shouldnt have a problem, it might take you most of the day but it would be a good learning experience.

I'm not sure what kind of deal Arc Burn (don) would give you, let him know i sent you to him, we usually work together here on LTS trouble shooting western and fishers but i havent heard from him in a while, you might have to email him.

If you get everything and want to talk about a few tips before you get started, ppm me and i will get you my phone # to help you out.

I appreciate that offer, Crash, and I am positive I will take you up on that offer once I round up all my parts. I PMed Arc Burn last night, but I have not heard from him yet. And yes I did mention that you were the one who referred me to him. I gave all the part #'s you gave me so I'll wait to see what he has to say. I know it only Sept. , but I am getting anxious now to have this thing ready to go!!
Once again, Thank You for all the hospitality you all have shown here!

K-Dog.........What have you decided to do ?

kdog55
09-21-2005, 12:40 PM
Not much luck finding used parts and I really hate the price tag on the new parts! As of now I am awaiting to hear from a semi-local guy(45 min. drive) who is a Fisher/Meyers/Blizzard dealer. I contacted him last week and he can hook me up with some used and some new parts to all the wiring harnesses, but he does not have the truck mount. He is trying to locate one for me, but he also said he can get me a new one and not charge me full list price. So far this is the best I have found. I would of rather the opposite and got a used mount and paid full price for the new electrical components.
Do you think I will be alright with the used electrical parts? I am most concerned with the isolation module. Do they ever go bad/get worn out?

K..............I sent a msg. to Jerres service in Erie Pa. If he has any
used parts ya need I will let ya know or you can call him.

Hes a pretty good guy................814 898 2171

He swaps a LOT of different plows for Blizzards so he always has
used parts or complete units for sale.

There is a guy on e-bay that has a used push bar for $300 !
New is $400 LIST! He has a harness for $225 !!!!!!!!!
They are for 04-05 GM full sizers
Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad my old harness won't work !

My old fuse harness gave no problems in 3 hard winters.
My new module one has been troublefree also.........

I note NO problems posted around here from anyone having
any western module troubles...Thats GOOD!

Hang in there.Something will turn up !
