Tonight's news says it will be mostly rain changing to light snow with no accumulation. We'll have to watch the temps between now and then.

everything around here is melting nicely . I am ready for another weekend storm .
Well all of the 6:00 TV guys are going for the rain forecast, but the NWS & Gary Gray are biting so far, so that is good news indeed! Looks like another real difficult forecast to pin down with too much warm air around. NWS Mt Holly even put out a Winter Weather Outlook statement, so that is promising for some of this area. Keep those fingers crossed!!

I have been hearing rumors about another storm, but tonight when I went on the web to start checking the forecast after a long rainy and windy day- I found that they are predicting 4-10" of white gold for us!! It is of course lake effect, but the winds are coming directly off of the lake and the maps so far have the band forming directly over me- and we are located just the right distance to get that 10". This will be interesting!! I will pist pics if we get snow- and of course come back and Rant if we don't! LOL!!

Bill you and Jay better dance a little, 4+ inches would be nice !
I hate when it's right on 3" which is the trigger for the drives,
wouldn't want anybody upset!
But the sanders will probably get a work out , as it'll be a wet sloppy mess then freeze solid!
Looks like a wait and see weekend. And stay off the SOFT ground!

Well guys- just got home from a long day- was out til 1:30 am yesterday with lake effect snows, then went out at 5:30am to clean my residentials ( didn't think they would like the rumble of my truck at 1am- LOL! ) and after I was done with that I had to go drive Santa around town in a fire truck. Unfortunately it was in a truck with no heat!!! LOL- it's our brush truck- an old army jeep. It stopped by my house before I was driving, but my wife got pics, so as soon as they get developed I will post them. After the Santa ride- noticed my power steering making some noise- went to check and found a bolt had sheared off the bracket holding my pump for the plow on! Did not have the right tools to remove the bolt- no time to go over to my dad's garage and get my brothers car out of the way and my truck in and still be able to get some sleep- so a friend of mine helped me mount another bracket(something laying around the fire station from work done on another truck) and tighten everything up. Going to go put some mechanics wire on it to keep things tight through the storm so that I can get it in the shop next week , or weekend depending on whether or not the second storm comes in/forms this week. Started to review the weather to see what time to set the alarm for and found this map from the local weather man who is usually very accurate- was right on the money at 8" of lake effect yesterday- and found this interesting map.

I'm all excited at the prospect of all that snow- especially since I might get two new commercial accounts from guys who are ignoring them completely- possibly a third if he doesn't keep the contract he has up- he's been letting things slide and that will work in my favor!!
So on that note- I need to catch up with everything that has happened on the site in the last 24 hrs and try to calm down and sleep- Hmmmmmmm..... Maybe a little brandy?

We got 4" and then it changed to rain around 2:00 - 3:00 PM, and rained hard a few times. Precip stopped around midnight, temp was 37 degrees. By 4:00 AM it was 33 & an hour later it was below freezing. Got down to 28 before starting to rise again. The rain almost, but not quite, washed away all of the snow on paved surfaces. We pushed everything & I'm glad we did. Anybody that didn't had an inch of the leftover snow (clear snow actually, so basically ice), that was frozen solid like an ice rink for the morning rush hour. Got a complete salt run in this morning to, so another good December storm, albeit strange for this area to be doing all of this work now. Time for bed now.

We got 5 to 6", then it got compacted with sleet. Through the night it poured for about 1/2 hour, but it didn't foul things up too much. I had everything done by 6:00 am and then hit the hay. I went around this afternoon, everything was in good shape.
we've got winds here that must be gusting to 50 mph, if it weren't for the crust on the snow, there would be a big drifting problem.

The winds are crazy! Driving home it was right in my face, felt like I was pushing a big bank the whole way home :burnout

ANOTHER ONE ALREADY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I need some time to do repairs!!!!!
Made lots of $$$$ in this last one- but it snowed for 21 hours straight! It tapered off at the end and slowed down to about an inch every 2 hours, but in th heat of the storm we were getting 3-4" and hour! I tried to plow with the storm, stoped plowing some of my accounts that were closed/nobody home for a while to get the others cleaned up and when I went back I had one lot that had 14+" in it- that came down in about 4 hours time. I have some pics- I will post them soon, but before then I need to get some repairs done. Here is what broke/happened during the last storm-
Sheared the bolts off on my power steering pump- which also helps to keep tension on my plow pump belt- got that temporarily fixed into place to keep going, then...
On the way back into town to finish up the route was drving down the road, and was just about to open my mouth and say something about all of the deer tracks and that hey finally decided to venture out when one jumped out in front of me!!! Wouldn't have been so bad except instead of running to one side or the other so I could avoid it- it decides to run riht down the road in front of me!! Normally I would have been able to stop- but with 6-8"of snow in the road I wasn't going to nail the brakes hard- so I simply lined up the blade and nailed it! Caught it dead center, rolled it up and then under the truck- got out and looked at the blade for damage- none !!, but looked back and saw the poor deer in the road, so I backed up and dropped the balde a little to move it to the side of the road and into the bank. Should have looked at the rest of the truck then.
Went up to my northern most account- a driveway that they were just riding out the storm and said to get there when I could- plowed out the 2 ft they had and was on my way back to do cleanup at my commercial accounts. As I was coming down the road, a town plow was heading my way, and of course since they knew me they were having some fun and staying over the yellow line- so I moved over to give them room, no big deal but....
When I went to move back over heard this loud bang and the front of the truck dropped. By this time I had been up for 20 hours or so, so I didn't get too excited- figured I'd popped a tire and I'd need to get my spare out- WRONG!! I got out and looked behind the truck only to see my TIRE in the snow bank about 125ft behind me- turns out that I had sheared off all six studs and the tire fell off!!!! So I walked back and got it, called AAA- they are not supposed to tow vehicles with plows, but he's a friend of mine, so he got the truck a few miles down the road to the fire station and dropped it off for me. I had called a couple of friends while waiting and had a ride to go get my back up truck. So I made it back to town to wait. After 2 hours with no sign of him I went over to my accounts and did some shoveling so they could do business, and shovel off the gas pad so that the station I plow could get their delivery. I had called CNY Joe earlier to see how his luck was going( he clipped a curb and blew a tire in the beginning of the storm) and was offered a hand if I needed it. I told him I had a truck coming- or so I thought- but thanked him for the offer. Needless to say I ended up calling him to beg for help and e was limping home due to a blown hydraulic line! I was standing in my local NAPA and they advised me they could make one up for him. So Joe came out to get a hydraulic line and rescue me! THANK YOU JOE!!! I installed te hydraulic line for him, we hit my commerial accounts and then he dropped me off at the fire station so I could start to fix my truck. At this time we had both been up for 28 hours straight, so he headed home, and I found a quiet spot at the station and dropped off for an hour. Woke up, fixed the Beast and hit the road again. Plowed til about 11pm, went home and crashed for 11 hours. I'm just getting ready to get moving and go fix the truck and check in on my accounts to see who needs cleanup before the next storm. Might have to get the tractor out tonight and move some banks back at a couple of places. I stopped in here to see what was happening, and also to see if Joe had posted the pics of my hobbled truck yet. I don;t see them, but I know they are coming!!
Oh well- all in a days work.
Sorry so long guys!!! Thanks for reading though- hope you all got a kick out of it!! I decided it was better to laugh than to scream and holler- it's working so far!!!
