That time of year again: I've heard from my local salt supplier that salt will most likely go up 3-5% this winter. No big shocker fule costs again..
What have you heard in your area?
Looked up last yrs cost per ton and I was paying $49.00 a ton all winter long :shades

Last year started out at about 60 now up to 75. Troubling thing here is this pre seaseon pricing. What happens if we get a strong season like last year?.............. $$$$$$$$$$$$

Here in Waterford Mi salt is real close to last year's price. Bedrock is charging $60.00 a ton same as last year. Now you can get it cheaper if you large amounts of salt. I have no where to store or load it.

I checked prices for bulk salt delivered for $47.50 per ton 24 ton total.
However after the first delivery all quotes are off. I laughed when he told if it doesn't snow the cost should stay the same or drop. But then I won't need any I told him. All their salt comes up the Mississippi, Ohio river.

Just talked to my supplier and same price as last season at $49.75 per ton delivered 22-24 tons per load. Salt is $42.00 the rest is trucking and subject to a fuel surcharge. Even with a 100% surcharge the wost I could see would be $56.00 per ton.
Also getting a commitment letter locking the rate but I must take delivery of 180tons and rate is locked up to 250tons. I could have gotten it for about $5.00 less a ton with the "but when it is gone it is gone." Which means if we have a heavy snow season come Jan. there is not salt to be had and now I am looking for a new supplier with salt. What would it cost me than.....No Thanks. Besides this supplier did right by me last season every load delivered within 24hrs most of the time the next morning.

You guys in the midwest have a good spot, being near the distribution spots for most of the salt. At the end of last year the price around here was as high as $95 per ton plus delivery, if you could get any.

Today, local Bulk Salt price came in at $53.00 at ton picked up.
Up 4 bucks from last season.
Now we don't need the supply demand prices to kick in mid season like in the past
As of Oct. 11 '05 $41.00/ton picked up 2 miles from where I store it. I expected a decent price increase, but it didn't rise too much. We are lucky to be 2.5 hours away from the salt mines.
