I know this isnt the right place to post this but i dont know where else to put it so i'll just ask and if someone wants to move it then do it. My buddy has a 1994 Cavalier without a stock tach so we picked up a aftermarket tack for it and we are wondering where to hook the trigger / signal wire up to. I am thinking the coil but not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Listen i enjoy helping people here with tech questions and iam sure Chris will back me on this PLEASE tell us when asking a question what the make, model, year, engine, auto trans , manuel trans it makes a big diff on how i can answer your question. Sense the Cav could have either a 2.2 vin 4 engine or a 3.1 v-6 its important to know which so i can look at a wiring diagram and give you the correct wire , color and location on the module/coilpack .

Iam not trying to be a hard butt iam concerned about giving someone on here the wrong advise and causing damage or misdiag of a problem. This will be moved to the car Forum and hopefully everyone will read this its important once again to know the details of what we are helping you with..

Engine speed output signal is usually white, and can be tapped into under the dash,or near the ignition module.Since the module is a bear to get at on both the 3.1L and the 2.2,I'd pop the cluster out and get at it there. It's pin#2 on the IC connector.

It's a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L with a 5 speed manual. Their are many white wires that come into connectors under the dash so we tried going directly off the distributer and we got signal. It would idle at about 600 RPM which you would think is normal but when you hit the gas it would barely move, so if you would rev it and hold it at what you would think is like 4000 RPM it would only say 2000 RPM on the tach. Basically we wasted a whole day messing around trying to find the correct wire. So if someone would have a complete description or pictures of where the signal wire is exactly it would help us a lot. Here are some pictures of where we hooked it up. Devin

You might need to set the tach to 4 Cyl.

Sorry
I missed the post ok from the ing control module connector you need to jack car up and put stands under it so you dont crush yourself ok!!!!

once under vech the ing module is on the drivers side rear of block unplug the connector with the mulitple wires not the two wire plug ------- on the connector there will be several wires you need to tap on connector C-1 terminal A it is a white wire thats your tach ref wire make a nice connection please NO SCOTCH locks run the wire threw to the interior to your tach.

Chris had basicly gave you the correct wire color even in the IP panel just needed to connect to terminal A you can hook it up from either end. If the car didnt come with a tach there is a poss the socket to the ip cluster or dash is empty so tapping right off the ing module is gonna probley be the easyiest way.

PS if you are confused when looking at the connector from the ing control module there will be a letters for app terms on connectors.
