im looking at buying a 1990 ford mustang tomarrow for $2700. its the lx model but it has the 5.0l automatic. i thought the lx was only a 4 cyl not the 5.0l. did the lx come stock with a 5.0l? or was it a swap?

The LX could be ordered with the 5.0. It was actually a little faster than the GT, (especially in the sedan version),as it didn't have all the extra weight from the body panels.

At your age that car will surely cost you an arm and a leg to insure..........
If you want a sweet 80's Stang find a Notchback 5spd 5.0 ;)
Thats the car to get in my opinion :D

You will be the best judge of that after you see the car!

Be wary, most of those cars were flogged hard, and abused. There are clean ones out there, but there are a lot more beat ones. If your experience with hi powered RWD car is limited, you better be careful, the LX5.0 is a tail happy, torquey car that is not very forgiving if you mess up.In rain it is a nightmare, and on dry roads with any type of bumps in the corners, you need to be very careful, those cars can be a handful with an aggresssive driver.I had 4 different Mustangs,i loved my 89 LX 5.0 the best, but I have to dissagree with Jay,I preffer the hatchback, its much more functional, and the added weight over the rear wheels,is needed for traction. I loved those cars, they were quick for there time, and fun to drive. The 1990 and newer stangs had an airbag and no tilt wheel, even on the top of line models.Things to look for on that car,bad oil leaks, leaky heater core, rear end whine, trans growling.

john the tranny is new. im good friends with the kid who owns it and he takes good care of it. i will look for all the things that you mentioned. he also told me be vary carfull in the rain. this will be the first car ive owned with a lot of power. to be honest im nervouse about it. if everything checks out i bring it home tomarrow. i kno the tires will need replacing soon but they should pass inspection. im hoping to get good milage out of it maybe up to 18mpg.

If the tires are thin, replace them ASAP! Like John said this car will throw the rearend around like there's no tomorrow, especially in the wet. I had an '89 GT 5spd. and it was nothing to cut a donut on wet pavement or throw it into a slide under the same conditions, even with good tires. One of the few times I have ever been afraid driving was in that car sliding through a sharp curve in the rain on worn out tires, (not completely, but in need of replacement). I didnt lose it, but it was a damn close thing........ That being said it was a great car, (except for the tickets I managed to get in it!), good power, reliable, (I did have some trans problems, but that was well over 100,000 miles), and decent mileage, (I got 22-24 on the highway, if I could keep my foot out of it). I wish I still had it.....

Mustangs lx came with a 5.0l . I am a mustang nut and own three total the 87 convert i gave to my 16yr old to drive it has 30k on it iam not bothered by her driving she has taken good care of it since i started letting her drive. I have a 89 GT 5 speed with a GT40 engine 3inch exhust, frame ties , 4wheel disc brake conver. The third is a 89 GT convert looks like the twin to the 87 thats my pride and joy i bought it brand new and has 12k on it.
Big warning like John said these cars are not meant for rain , snow, slippery condtions. I have spun all three around in a 360 on wet roads, all three get stored during the winter i will fine my daughter another TJ wrangler before winter since i stole hers last year and made it a plow truck after i crashed the service truck.

i took the car out for a drive and fell in love with it. it drove straight the front end was tight. it sounded mean it has an after market magnaflow exhaust which sounds incredible. it has a nice system it includes an amp and sub. it also has a shift kit which was a rly nice feature on it. the body it is for the most part clean a few dings here and there and sum bondo. not to bad. could deff use new paint. the check engine light is on and i do not know why and neither does the current owner. he said he had it checked out and there is nothing wrong. im still thinking about it but might b buying it monday. any thoughts about it?

I dont know what your paying for it but like i tell my customers better to pay for a inspection and fine out about the check engine light has theres something going on with the computer system or it wouldnt be on. Honestly i would pass on a auto tranny and look for a 5 gear the autos are just no fun.

If the check engine light is on there is something wrong. The car will not pass NYS inspection either. Get it checked before you find out it will cost you big money to fix.

i thought about it and i think im gonna pass. the car does need more work then i'd like to put into it. its a nice car but i think for $2700 i could find a much nicer one with less milage and a 5spd in better shape. im willling to pay way more then $2700 for the right car. i also got a few insurance quotes and becuz of my age insuring a mustang wiil cost over $350 a month :zoinks so i cant even afford insurance on one right now anyway. im sure ill look at a few more mustangs before i find the one i want. thanks for the help im sure i will have any more questions before i choose one

Why not put a down payment on a newer plow truck and daily driver? The 2700 could be a nice chunk off of interst. Personally if I were going to get a sport car I would go with a Eclipse GSX awd turbo, or a 3000GT VR4 awd turbo, or a VR6 VW and supercharge it or turbo whatever you prefer, or a MR2 rear engine turbo. Ill put it this way buy a plain jane and build it up yourself so you know noone has put it through hell.

Any ?'s on mustangs shoot them my way. I have had 3 in the last 8 years..great cars if u get 1 not beat..Bad in the rain and snow, great in the summer..The lx or gt are the same quickness, even if the gt has fearings, remember this the lx may be 200 lbs lighter but when u are running 100mph in the 1/4 the gt is more aero dynamic Because of those fearings. I had a 87-88-93 all the same speed in my opinion..ran 1/4 with all...
