Sarah and I finally got the offer to buy her grandfather's house, it will definately be an ongoing project. The house started out in 1865 as a one room school house, then was converted to a house in 1945. Her grandparents bought the house in 1955 and raised 6 boys in a 4 room house. We will be the 3rd generation to live in the house.
Anyway here's some pictures. 1st one is the south side, 2nd is the east, 3rd is the north.

The kitchen is the first to get a going through as of right now I've replaced all of the drywall added 3 new outlets, a new ceiling light, new stove, fridge, dishwasher, faucet, etc. We're in the process of finishing the drywall and getting ready to paint.
First two pics are about in the middle of the reconstruction. 3rd is what we have now.

The rest of the house is getting a fresh coat of paint before we move in, but no major renovations yet. I'll throw up a few before and after pics as we go along.
Two more pics of the kitchen. Third is part of the original school sign.

Hey Festerw- I just sold the family home after much agonizing debate. I still have dreams of it, wondering if I did the right thing. It seems to haunt and beckon me at times, but while I lived in it, it never seemd like it was "my" home and I often didn't have the motivation to work on it. Now, the home prior to it and the home I have now, I find myself working on all of the time! To some folks, there's something satisfying knowing that they are continuing to keep a home in the family. In my case, it didn't work out for various reasons. In yours, you have the opportunity to update it as needed while adding your own preferences and ideas. My family home was in perfect condition, just not the layout, size, and neighborhood that we ultimately preferred to have. Good luck with your new project; I'm sure your family is pleased to see it taking shape and in good hands.

Home is just that a place were you feel comfortable and happy iam a great example i bought my house from my mom when my dad died i have lived in the same house for 42yrs have the same adress and telephone number. I have made major remodel work here when i first bought it and often times my wife has been upset we have to live in the getto has she calls it lol. Its not the getto its old Midland and even though we are capable of building or moving up with the yupees i have no desire to leave my home the memorys here are priceless from being raised here to raising my own kids here. Down the road you will look back and iam sure your wife and the great times she had there growing up will make it home sweet home.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys, luckily we're living in an apartment with her aunt now so we have no set time to be into the house which is really nice. The work is progressing at a decent rate most of the rooms are primed and ready to be painted and the kitchen still needs some sanding on the drywall joints.
There are still quite a few projects I want to get done but I think I'll run out of time before winter gets here, up high on the priority list right now is a new furnance as the 30 year old fuel oil one is on its last legs. Then I have some siding to do, landscaping, insulating, roofing and hopefully next summer I'll be able to at least start on building a bigger garage.

Thought I would give an update, we are all moved in and slowly getting settled. The kitchen, dining room and computer room are all finished (except a few pieces of trim) we still have the living room, bedroom and bath to finish. Onto the pics
