Too bad is is gas operated. Maybe all electric would have been worth the look.

Triton.....

I saw some the other day at Adams, probably where you saw it too. I think I looks good. Nice design from what I can tell. It'll be interesting to see how it performs. If it performs well, maybe we'll have to consider one. Also, I saw your truck with the blizzard plow.....VERY NICE :blizzard . Is that your first blizzard plow? I don't know much about them as you know there aren't that many of them around here. :waving

That is my first Blizzard on my F450. Got rid of my Boss 9.2. I think it was a good choice.

That tube frame wont last very long. I saw a much better design at the snow show in Mass. The swenson rep was pretty adamant that electric motors dont belong on a spreader, and that if I wanted electric power that to go buy a smith. I said I already have 3 and thanks for the advise.

I'll second that. Electric is the only way to go for spreaders. Less hassle.

I see swenson has an electric power v box. Not poly though. What do you guys think about this. I would like to get more info about it and see it it person. I cant really see myself using a gas engine that sits under a cold metal box. This electric model caught my eye though. http://swensonspreader.com/images/lpv.gif

It caught my eye to. I'd like to see a shorter poly hawk for the shortbox trucks, with the electric motor. That would find it's way to my garage rather quickly. By the way, it doesn't need to be pretty so long as it works and works well.

I looked at the poly spreader again today. There is two things that concerns me about this spreader. #1-the metal tube gussets #2 the engine cover is thin and the rubber straps that hold it on are tiny. All in all it's in my top 3 spreaders that I am considering.
Other two I am looking at are
downeast spreaders have a good dealer only 5 mins from my house
Smith, they look good too but nearest dealer is 1hr away . I would like to hear more pros on them.

My neighbor has a smith electric and swears buy it. Its amazing how quite it is. I just ordered a Sno-way electric because the smith was more than I have. But Within the next two years I will get the smith electric.

I have been very happy with Bill Smith over at Costal Metal Fab/Downeaster. I buy there product and I am in Chicago. If the dealer was that close I would be even happier.

I have heard nothing bad about Smith over the passed four years that I have been interested in all electric spreader. I did hours of seaching for any and all feedback on all electric units with Smith and Downeaster the main two suppliers. Smith does not make the tailgate unit I am using from Downeaster and that is way I when with them.

I picked up their dump insert with matching spreader last year this time. I spread salt all winter and used the heck out of the insert all summer and have been very happy. Therefore, I ordered a second unit for the new truck. I have sevreal pictures posted here of my Downeaster set up. I purchased what I did based on the very high level of feedbacj I found on there V box units.

From what I have read if I was in the market for an all electric V box (because if I was to own another V box it would only be an all electric unit) I think I would go with Downeaster seeing first hand the quality of their work having gotten GREAT customer service just over the phone over 1,000 miles away.Hope that helps some how.

Good luck.

Anyone buy one of these? Looks like you need to clean up under the spreader unlike my salt dog with the auger.

This is a few years old thread. But I have a poly hawk and it seems to be a good unit. The tube frame everyone was concerned about has held up well for 3 years now with over 1000 tons of p-rock and sand through it each year. Mine has a Honda motor which is hard starting when it is cold but warm it fires right off. I have not had to do anything to this spreader sense new other then change oil and grease.
The only down fall is you can not apply heat if needed. Expensive? $7,000 Delivered to my door in Alaska
My Down Easter is a SS with a JD motor and it was within $200 of the Poly Hawk.

I would get rid of the gas engine and cover it to Hydro. Do you have fall out at the bottom of the spreader from the conveyor like you would with a drag chain?

Dave.

Mine has a drag chain. The housing is completely enclosed so there is no outside fallout. As for converting to Hydro. this unit is already hydro it is just powered by the Honda which runs a hydro pump. Also mine are mounted on stellar roll off beds so I can remove and install the sander in 30 seconds when not in use.
Here is one of my older sanders on a roll off bed.
