What can you add to salt so that it wont clump up in your spreader ?

Are you having a problem with clumping in this weather? That sure blows a hole in the theory that salt "freezes"! :)

Assuming that you mean during the winter, try:

1. spraying with Magic -0, Caliber or similar product or
2. Mixing with fine sand (each keeps the other from clumping/freezing)

I agree with Mick treating the salt prevents clumping, and if your stuck with some over the summer the Caliber or Magic-0 will prevent it from harding into clumps. I have a Trynex 1875 that we only use occasonaly and it set with caliber treated salt in it for over 6 weeks this winter, and the salt stayed unfrozen and free flowing.

http://www.magicsalt.com/ and click on "Find a Distributor".

Where are you? If you're wanting to coat salt, you'll want to buy Magic -0 (which is a liquid), not Magic Salt. It's applied at eight gallons per ton. If you're only treating 10-14 tons on an infrequent basis, I'd suggest just pour it over the top of your pile and "turn" or "stir" the pile a couple of times.

Not sure who the distributor for Caliber in IL is. Try www.anti-icers.com and see of there is a dealer locator somewhere on their site.

Hey, did you go with Conserv???

Make sure you get and/or ask for Morton Blue. Keep it dry. It worked great last year. I am getting a load Monday AM. I'll let you know what it looks like.

If it is really wet and temps are low I mix in a few (4-6) bags of Mag-Chloride. That keep the bottom from getting hard.

Actually, the Magic Salt web site was changed to www.magicsalt.info . The old one will not work. Tim
