What factors do people on this site use to determine when to replace their batteries? Batteries are put to the test with snowplow equipment, diesel glow plugs, aux lighting (back-up and emergency), cell phones chargers, and stereos.
Mileage? Seasons? Months in Service? Wait until you have a dead battery?

Once it starts acting up I junk them.
I had a low voltage problem with my 01 GMC this spring. I'm driving down the road and put on by blinker, or any other electric operated item and the truck would stall. The service engine light would come on for about 5 min after restarting the truck and then go back off. I took it back to the dealer three times and they said they could not duplicate the problem, nor find anything wrong with my truck. (Another long story:rolleyes: ) I finally realized that every morning I started the truck it turned the motor over very slowly, but still started the truck. I thought a little about it and realized the problems started when the battery began acting up.
I should have caught it sooner, but many of us would not know nearly as much if it was not for experience. :burnout

Any diesels or any plow truck,we change them every two years,no matter what.Sell off the old ones,as they still have a lot of life in a car application.
Never had a battery failure yet.

I actually run the Optima gell type batteries and everything gets a charge put on it once a month. The quad, my truck, wifes trailblazer, the dixie chopper everything with a battery. I have a 2000 yamaha grizzly with the stock battery and I have put it through the ringer and stills holds up. But I always charge it!
