Do a couple of harleys for just the cost of materials just to get your work out there and i bet you will have some business..$$

now those are flames. look like the ones i have seen done on overhaulin on tv. So the 64 mil. question how much would that type of job cost?
jeffw
06-27-2005, 06:34 PM
depends alot on what paint is on vehicle, how much prep i have to do ect full paint or just flames and clear, and size of vehicle. gotta fit in my tent...yes all this quality in my back yard... damn i need a big ole garage.
yes same style as overhauling..hok candy paints 9 steps. very cool looking in the sun. camera does not capture all the sutle colors there are millions of shades when done.

DAYUM Jeff!!!
You are just the guy I am looking for.
My Ranger is undergoing the "customizing/trick" process now. I am sorting through airbrush/paint artists and body men to do some work for me. I want to shave/flip my tailgate and have a FORD mural done on the back and I was thinking of doing ghost flames up on the front. Right now I really need to find a good trick body man to shave/flip the gate handle. Any suggestions...and if they do a good enough job I am considering relocating the gas door to a custom behind the taillight location like I have seen in the past or hiding it inside the bed.
Once the paint is done I am looking into a mild lift for the truck. Hopefully by then there will be lots more 4.0L parts out (since the new V6 stangs have the same engine as this truck does).........

not that i have the best body work skills, but i would look into a poper or electric actuator, kind that can release with a push button. then you need no handle. they use em on shaved door handel kits. i actully hate body work but love painting.

Very nice work and not many guys even know what house of colors is they make some of the coolest colors Dupont released hot hughes last year and i have sprayed some small stuff with dupont i have seen a average gallon of two stage house of colors at 450 to 550 dollars for muilti view color. You should keep going thats great work biggest headache comes with blending a front end unless your gonna reclear hood, fenders, if you do decide to do one and you dont want to reclear a whole front clip try duponts Chromablend good stuff it will burn old and new clear together and then some small wheel work.
Has far has custom paint work like your doing at least up here the bill out is around 75hr times many hours equals the hell with snow plowing lol

Wow, Jeff. I think your practice is over. That is amazing. Harley tanks, fire trucks, hot rods, I think you could make some good money doing that. Very nice work.

the first step in doing this hok paint is to skuff the entire vehicle or item with 800 grit, so clear coat after is a must. plus since all the flame paint from hok are bases no catalysist it needs the clear to protect it from the elements and from fading. hok clear is incredable i used it on my camaro and man can you get a super deep shine out of it. the camaro looks wet when its dry, very cool products.

Work of art Jeff! Those flames are amazing, you are truly talented. Once I can scratch up some money, we need to talk. Those flames on my black Freightshaker would be wild!

Here's (http://www.letstalksnow.com/forums/showthread.php?p=58679#post58679) a link to a pic of my truck Jeff. Single axle, so not too big, and yes it's BLACK!
Where are you in Western MA ?

wow thats a sweet looking truck, love the shape of the head light area. it would look great in flames..paint that is..
im in westfield 20 min from springfield.
to paint something that big i would have to find a nice clen garage to work in. outside job on that would not do it justice. my biggest problem right now is space.
i gotta build a new 3 car garage so i can do these types of projects. its a hobby that i love doing will never be a full blow buisness. ive learned everything from reading and doing. but it would be a great little side income. great way to make money doing something you love. i am not super fast but i am confident when i am done it is to my liking and i am a perfectionist. i control what i can and fix what i can't after the fact
i see your a builder what the going rates on garages? is lumber pricing still out of this earth.

just an fyi.....
here is the site of Mike Lavalle's killer paint. he is the creator of this fantastic paint process. in the true fire gallery there are multiple pics of some of his masterpieces. even an helecopter. but in set 1 there is a kw rig that he did. gives you an idea of the over the fender look. incredable. Mike is truely an incredable artist and has been so gracious to show his entire process for the world to see and duplicate. He encourages this process and everyone creative side to come up with your own style as it happens naturally any way. no two sets are ever the same as its paint what you see as you go. So a big thumbs up to mike and if you have real deep pockets he will come to you. He just did a cesna plane last week. i bet that is going to turn some heads at the airport when it lands.

I am a fan of Mike's work. I've seen some of it on tv, incredulous!
I know Westfield, I'm about an hour + from Spingfield. I can provide the 3 squares, my truck and the inside shop space when I'm ready, if you don't mind coming down :nodd :drinkup Let's keep in touch.
As for building a garage, yeah lumber continues to increase in price. Last year was crazy, as they attributed the rise in cost to the wild fires out west and the tarriffs on Canada. This year isn't much better.

sounds good, let me get some smaller projects done before tackling a truck at that expense. i don;t see a problem doing it just gotta get the flame scale correct or it looks like a candle. and that would not make me happy or you.
ill be doing the pick up in a week while on vacation, hope the weather is cooperative. ill post em when done.

good points Jim, but I think that a campfire is just sitting there burning freely, where flames on a vehicle are meant to look like they are being blown back because the car is in motion.
