I was over at a friend place tonight and he was installing a new buyers spreader which is the one in the pic. It seemed really high and seemed like it needed to be lowered. Well, we lowered it and it seems that those little bars that come from the sides of the bed are too much on an angle. Does anyone know about where this thing is supposed to be as far as height. When the bars run almost level, it seems the spinner would be too high. He is also concerned about the motor being exposed to easy damage, should he build a case or something for it..anything is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would mount that motor at least above the reciver hitch if he has one. That is how i did mine, but i also have a custom mounting. As for height of the spreader that will be something you will have to deal with. Unless you want to replace that motor and framework after he tears it off. BTW spinner height should not make too much of a difference.

I see. He is going to build a protecting frame around the motor. Whats the deal with the labeling of the wires on the motor. 1 and 2. which is which...does anyone know by chance??

I have to agree the instructions were terrible at best. I also had to have a custom mount made, this was because I needed full use of my backblade. I was totally confused reading the directions, if fact all 6 pieces of mounting hardware are piled underneath the bench.

I would have to agree that the spinner location is not important,

Oh and what are the little bars supposed to hook to on the top rail of the bed?

The spreader looks great for the price, they just need better instructions

Oh and the #1 and #2 on the motor, who knows, I hooked it up both ways and it ran fine, so I kept it the way I THOUGHT was the correct way. Hey if anyone knows maybe you could pass it on to the rest of us.

Well. he hooked up the 1 to positive and the 2 to the negative. It works fine now. He still has it lower than the original position, those little bars do hook to the bed. THey are on alittle bit of a harsh angle, but I think they will be ok. Yeah, tho, if someone knows what the actual terminals are, that would be good info.
And remember to turn the key on before you start trouble shooting your work

If that spreader has an auger one way will make the auger pull the material to the spinner and the opposite will happen if the wires are reversed.

I have the same spreader, I raised mine to a height of about 12" above the ground. I will be building a cage around the motor soon I hope. The instructions for the wires are wrong they have part numbers and they don't match up to what type of spreader you have. I hooked mine to #2 (positive) and it worked for me but I don't think it matters. Just make sure the motor is spinning in the correct direction, if not reverse the wires.

I would also suggest if you can to make some type of support at the top. I will take some pictures over the weekend of mine and post then.

The only reason we like to get the spinner lower is to throw the salt under parked cars. When we had a Meyer tailgate spreader, we first installed it too high, and the customers were always asking us to come back to re-apply salt to the lots. Finally figured out that the salt was hitting the parked cars and not going underneath, leaving large areas un salted.

Lowered it the next season and solved the problem. Don't lower it too low or you run the risk of damaging the motor while plowing.

how do you guys get into the beds of your trucks if you have a snow blower?

i thought about the SUV commercial grade one buyers makes. you pull a pin and it drops down so you can get in the bed of your truck.
