Has anyone had problems with the Ultramount? I was looking at Westerns site and it seems that there is a possibility of the plow coming unhooked from the truck mount. I think that I have decicded on a Western, just cause the dealer is close and everyone that has one says the dealer is pretty good. Now hopefully I can save up enough money to get one. I kinda feel stupid for askin all these questions when I don't even have a blade yet.

Really no such thing has a stuipd question has far has western ultra is concerned its a slick set up i have only once had the left side come unhooked on my mvp but it was my fault not the blade i didnt have the latch locked it had snow built up under the latch and i had plowed one day then dump the plow to run a service call then came back that night and hooked back up during the day the packed snow had frozen in the latch and caused it not to fully lock once again my fault. Being completly honest having mostly blizzards know i can compare and make my honest opinion has far has hooking up and go western wins hands down with the ultra i still have to get out and fool around finding the narrow area to hitch the power hitch with the blizzards the ultra has a v shaped reciver that honestly you could be off inches either way and still get latched once latched you get out flip the latch slash landing gear and plug your connectors and your off. You can hear a very noticable latch sound when it locks so no worrys.
ps not to plug for western but theres a nice one yr old mvp western in erie pa thats selling for 2500.00 cant go wrong :)

CT..............Are ya sure ya mean the Ultra or the Unimount?
I know the UNI mount guys had a problem now and then with
the pins coming out and the plow letting loose and smashing
the front of the truck.
I have seen the aftermath of that !!!!
A simple lynchpin mod cured the problem..............

Yeah I mean Ultra. It just seems to me that there would be the possiblity of the hook becoming disconected from the truck side mount. It doesn't seem to be a major problem from what everyone has written so far. Also, what is the average price people are payin for a straight blade. I wish I had the knowledge and a shop/equipment to save the money to install it myself, but that isn't happening. I would really like to get one sometime this summer. Only time will tell how that works out.

CT........The only accidental unhook problem I have had with
my Ultra was my own fault for not doublechecking the lock in.
It unhooked on one side while backdragging.
But just pushing along forward the design keeps the unit pushed
into the recievers.
The Uni mounts and the pins that hold it in place can be a problem.

I'll agress with that, at least as far as hooking and unhooking the plow. My previous employer has 3 unimounts that I would hook and unhook. Those were a pain the arse. Having to carry around all the pins and everything kinda made it a pain. Hooking those plows up wasn't as bad as hooking up the Snowman Pull plow, but thats a different thread.

Don't carry the pins and clips around, toss them on the plow markers!
As for the Ultra, the only problems I have had were cases of operator error. Once I didn't look close enough and the hook didn't engage the pin/lug/dowel that it is supposed to engage... well, it was the first time out, so I re-aimed the headlights and everything, then I noticed that when I dropped the plow, the lights moved to the side. I then noticed my mistake, corrected it, and re-re-aimed the plow lights.
Problem 2, also O-E. I was backing up a tight, wooded drive. Plow raised and angled full left. As I got to the top of the drive, I turned the truck to the left, swinging the extended plow to the right. Well, it caught a tree. I didn't notice anything right then, but upon the next unhook, I noticed that the pin/lug/dowel had bent forward, and the hook had bent outward. Big hammered it back into place, but it must have been weakend as it bent again from normal backdragging. I replaced the right receiver and all is well.
moral of the story, don't hit anything while backdragging with a pro-plus... the pivot WON'T break!

In my 1st winters useage, Iv'e only had 1 incident where I didn't latch one of the hooks fully, WON'T happen again.
The other problem, (not a problem if you know about it!)
you cannot drive into the recivers and hook up the plow IF there is heavy snow on top of the plow horns.
It will not go into the truck side mount far enough to latch.
Found this out on the last storm, wet heavy snow , like 2" on top of the plow frame, drove in seated the horns , couldn't latch the hooks!
I can't see how the plow could come unlatched under normal useage.
Not like the old pros, Ive had few pins come off during use, over the years.
I've got a mess of the Westerns mostly Ultra's and a few Uni's. The only time I had one come off that was hooked up correctly was two seasons ago when one of my guys hit a metal plate covering a trench and that one was torn almost completly off the truck. Amazingly the 8'6" MVP was still able to function (left right up down etc.). If only it had still been attached to the frame of the truck :headwall :wah

William I have a 8' Western Ultra in good shape that will be for sale soon. The mount is on the truck still, it is for a Dodge so that does you no good anywho. I probally will be selling it outright, allthough Im on the fence for a new truck. Usually the dealer wont give squat for a used plow so one way or another I will be selling this plow. Its in good shape 2.5 seasons of use.
If your interested let me know. The plow has a few extra's on it. Oh by the way I never had issue with the plowing coming off, It does click in so just make sure you latch in.
