Just checking out Westerns site today and I see they are now offering a back drag edge for there Pro plows and Pro plus. Just thought I would let everyone know they were available now. Not sure how they mount, you really cant tell from the picture. http://www.westernplows.com/accessories.asp?acc=wearbars scroll down the page.

HMMMM.............My steel edge backdrags just fine.

I think one of those backdrag edges might come in handy
if your running a poly edge and are having backdrag issues.

But then again.............................geo :drinkup

I've heard that those fixed blades buzz like a reed- forward or back, not to mention that the small area gets packed with snow, making it difficult to get the blade to ride hard on the ground... Not to be a killjoy, and NOT first-hand experience.

I had the dealer install one on my Pro Plow when I bought it. It back drags a bit better than just a standard edge but it very loud when it scapes. I'm finding that the big centre bolt wears out very quickly(and snaps) with these back drag edges installed.

I have the backdrag edge on My new setup 8.5 Pro Plus.
The edge is sandwiched between the moldboard and the front cutting edge.

Personally I don't think it makes that much difference .
As for the snow packing in between, yea it does but a bigger issue is the Large chanel that runs across the back of the plow, that packs up with snow if you a draging alot or if the snow is deep.

As for noise no different than my old 8.5 pro with out a back edge.

Razor, you must have a pro cuz you aren't going to snap one on a Plus.

Iv'e never snapped the pivot bolt on a pro, but have worn out a few and have been through a few A frames and quads!!

Besides who's thinkng snow??

BWAMX- good to hear something conclusive from an actual user of the product.

As for the 6" ledge behind the blade- that thing can really grab some snow, huh? It gets packed up solid in about 5' of backdragging. I find that if I shake the plow a bit, it cleans out pretty well, giving a little better shot at the next pull.

I am thinking about replacing my cutting edge soon on my Pro Plus, well before winter gets here anyway, and was considering adding the back drag edge at the same time. I did a search on back drag edges and came up with those old thread! Figured I'd pull this thread back up instead of starting a new one. :wink Anyone else have anything more to add? Anymore good points or bad points? Is it a must have, or is it more trouble than its worth and don't bother? :popcorn2

If your adding a backdrag edge it should wait untill a new cutting edge is done or only the backdrag edge will be touching and gets bent up.The channel between the two will pack with ice but seems to still work better than none.

Yep, I know. Like I said above, I am going to replace the cutting edge soon and was wondering if the back drag edge is something I should get, cause if so, now is the time to get it, and put them both on together.

The heck with it. I won't put one on then. Seems no one has much good to say about them so far. Also if you were happy with yours, you wouldn't be selling it lol! :D Thanks to all who replied. ~Mike

seems that I have a lot of chatter using my back drag on black-top driveways. My back drag is a hinged type (kind of a homemade deal I guess) mounted on a 7-6 Pro Poly Uni and everytime I drop it to back drag I get this jumping and chattering that is quite disrupting; have a few residential drives and if I'm cleaning them out during the middle of the night it makes a hell of a racket.

Now when Im out here in the country cleaning out a few of my neighbors (and my own yard) where we have rock drives, it's no problem, I obviously dont get the chatter,

any thoughts would be helpful, wondered if anyone has had this.

Thanks guys.
