Just curious what upgrades everyone had to put on there dodges to get them ready for winter. I got an 02 24 valve cummins duelly thats gettin a plow. Im pretty sure ill need a bigger alternator and trans cooler. Just wanted to know if im leaving anything out and what brands or sizes everyone went with.

The stock Dodge alternator will suffice for your application,as long as your batteries are in good shape. Most diesels will use up batteries every 3 years or so,and it's worse when you put a plow on it.

Interstate makes some great commercial batteries which will last much longer when yours go bad.You can add a Leece-Neville alternator if your stock unit ever fails. It's cheaper, runs cooler, and lasts longer.

Stock trans cooler is pretty good, and should be more than enough for plowing.

Chris I plan on running 2 backup lights 2 side lights and 2 small strobes + plow. do you think the stock alternator would still be enough. I would hate to have to plow with no radio :scramble

thanks mike

You should have no trouble with the stock set up as long as your batterys are in good shape.Even with the extra lights, and strobes, you will be fine. I ran the stock alt even with 2 plows, and a ton of extra accesorys for almost 2 yrs before deciding to go to the Leece Neville alternator. As for trans cooling, the stock system is fine, just be sure to let the truck run in N and set the parking brake after hard pushing to let it cool down. The Stock Dodge trans does not flow oil to the trans cooler when in park, IMO,many Dodge transmissions would be saved if they were idled in N with the brake on.
