Im having the guy that welds for me make me a steel bumper for the front of my truck. We started toying with the idea of making mounts on the bumper to hold the pump and plow(meyer 8 1/2 with an E47) and just not using the meyer mounts. Now of course everything would have to be reinforced very well. and the height of the new mounting brackets would have to be correct for the blade and pump to function properly. I was wanting some feedback of some problems if any that we could run in to by doing this.

One problem may be that it will outlast the rest of the plow ;) Im sure your welding guy has a little fabricating expirience. Get with him and go for it I have thought about that idea the other day while i was working. Keep us posted !! :weld
You should build the plow mount first, get it solid and then wrap a bumper around it. I built this one for my Sno-Way. http://www.snowplowing-contractors.com/alan_bumper.html Build it bulletproof and it will outlast a bunch of trucks. Since I have no engineering education to fall back on for how much is enough I tend to overbuild. It might make my stuff a little heavy but it's not often I have to repair it either.

Alan, while you may not have any "official" engineering education, you have common sense, excellent fabrication skills, and have learn what works, and doesnt in the real world of building and actually using the plows.
Id take one of Alans mounts over an "engineered one" any day. I also agree with Alan that you should make the mount first. When i modify a mount im always trying to spread the stresses out over the widest part of the frame that i can.I notice most new plow mounts are getting shorter and shorter lenthwise where they attach to the truck frame, most of them are now shorter than a class 4 receiver hitch. If theres room Id get the rear braces back as far as you can to spread the load on the frame. For my purposes,i should have braces the run under the front axle back top the center of the truck, with how hard I plow. That will be my next mod to the blizzard plow. :burnout

This is basically the plan.
-Bumper 6" wide by 10" tall
-bumper wraps around front like alans
-pumps bottom will sit directly on top of bumper
-heavy duty bolt on frame will hold the chain for plow
-light poles will be built out of 1" pipe and be able to slide into top of bumper.
-blade mounts will be connected to bumper and extra mounts toward back of frame.
-Figured we'd mount the bumper like the plow mount + reinforcments
Should be a pretty heavy duty set up. Plus everything would be easily removable. and maybe leave room for a winch somewhere in there :nodd
Thanks for the pic alan scribbled on it a little.
