Maybe not too tacky, perhaps embarassing. Bring them on we're all average Joes. Or are we?!

Thanks, Thats Hannah on the left, Levi on the right, Hunter to the left of my wife Melissa, and the dogs are Jake and Travis. You would never know from the pic but my son Hunter has alot of trouble. He is 11 now and has autism, he is non verbal and has a lot of trouble understanding most things. He developed normally until the age of two. He even said 15 or 20 words and then regressed and quit talking and hasn't really been able to communicate since. The good news is he is happy, has fun (most of the time) and a great kid.

Crafty, nice picture, is that a dachshund your wife is holding?? We have an identical dog! Ours is a girl, same color, she is 5 years old and she is the cutest sweetest dog you ever met. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. What a joy she is to have! Her name is Princess! :D Mike :)

Dynamike- I have two sons and one brother in law that are autistic- it makes life interesting. HAve they labled what type of autism he has yet? My oldest has Aspbergers Syndrome- so far he is doing great, a little egotistical, but smart as a whip. We are keeping an eye on him though because that form of autism has violent tendencies, he has only shown mild ones so far, but we are hoping to avoid medicating him. My youngest is showing the same tendencies, but is only 5 so they have not labeled him yet- we are fighting to get him more testing. He also just had open heart surgery, and after he got out of the hospital he ended up with pnuemonia, but we were able to control his fever and keep him home with antibiotics. He is back to school now, full of energy and wearing his mother and me out!!!
I just wanted to say that dealing with these problems has shown me that even with their autism, my kids and the ones I have met through dealing with this has shown me that they can be the most joyful people to be around. He will find a way to communicate, have you tried sign language? He might pick right up on that and amaze you with how he communicates that way.
The rest of your family is beautiful too, and you sound like you are enjoying them. Craftybigdog- good luck with the little one!!

Actually he was diagnosed at about age 2 1/2. He has a MR Autism diagnosis. We have been working on sign language for the last two or three years and he is picking up on some a little. My wife is incredible, she became very involved right from the start, she works the Special Kids Network, She is on the County Board of Directors for Mental health, she has two support groups that meet in our home each month, and she speaks at least 12 conferances each year on the subject of Autism and the effects on the family and so on.

Bill and Dynamike,
You guys are great! We have 2 kids with Cystic Fibrosis. (Our middle two) Not much comparison with autism, but special needs kids too. It has been a handfull from time to time. We vowed to let them live as "normal" a life a possible. Their normal is just different from most other normal. Anyway, our son just became the first CF patient to make the US military. (Army National Guard) We are very proud of him. Love those kids and try to not hold them back. They will amaze you with what love and the Grace of God will do.
