Members Map

Hey Chuck I was wondering if there would be a way to set up a map of that shows were all the active members are from. I think that it would be kinda neat to see where everyone is from. Just a thought. Curious what everyone else would think.

It would be cool. The only problem is that half the Members do not list a location in their profile. Maybe I can start a poll for it. Then Members can vote for their State? I think Michigan would win.....

Chuck I see what you mean.I guess I didn't think about people not listing their location. The poll might be the way to go.

What's neat about this new version of vBulletin is you can make "Location" a required field. I did it at my site, the next time the member tries to go to his profile he has to add the location to access it. I like the idea too ctfan. I used to have a map dotted with skip contacts from the CB, it was fun to track calls.

Could that be done? I know steve has enabled the location thing on his site will not let you post again unless you have a local typed in .

Funny you posted this I was thinking almost the same thing a couple weeks back and never posted it. I remember seeing the maps the HAM’s used to have with the sticker pins in them. I do tend to notice when someone posts from far away. Last years we had a few from some guy in France I think and we get some fro Alaska I know.

I wish more people would fill out the profile a bit more also. Only takes a minute.

I don't know if this is even feasable but can a map be made of postal codes? Say a North American map with locations of little dots by Zip? Some states are pretty big but the postal code would help narrow it down without getting to specific (although my code covers only 1.2sq miles) on a members location. Anyone know of any programs like this?


Be suspicious of anyone with a 90210 code however. :wink

this is great.. you can see who's in each state... a link to this poll from the main page would be cool for a quick reference...
