I plowed one parking lot today with the toyota truck i drive for someone, probably 4-5" on the lot. Here's a photo when i was looking over some of the accounts around 11am before we had any real snow. I'll get some photos when i plow my driveway route tomorrow starting at 8am. We'll also most likely have to do snow removal at this one lot because they don't like to lose many parking spots.

Well,
We got about 6 inches in round one everything went good. I have a few minor problems to fix on the ford but it will have to wait until after this weekend. The Dodge did good for not having 4x4 working. The Chevy did great!!! An hour into plowing I was getting a scraping noise in the front when I backed up and the plow was shaking. I got out and checked it. I found that the plow came unhiched from the truck on the one side. I hooked it back up and had no more issues with it. I took my camera but didnt get a chance to take pics. When I ride with the guys tomorrow I will take some pics. Hopefully round two goes as good as round one. Its 235am and starting to snow hard in parts of New Castle County, De. Hopefully I will get back on here tomorrow nite or Sunday.
Everyone stay safe and make some money.

Now, I'm taking a break. They say the Blizzard conditions should start between now and 12:00 noon and run through tonight.
I figure that I'll rest up, and go out again mid afternoon and then again tonight.:D :D :cash
Maiden Voyage of the new truck and plow has been great so far. OH and By the way, The Fisher XBlade IS EVERYTHING that they say it is. Plows great, excellent roll off and back drags like a champ.
On a Sad note, I just talked to my brother in law, and he was driving between two of his accounts at 4:00 am this morning when some idiot in an SUV tried to turn in front of him and lost control, and slammed into him in his BRAND NEW Chevy 2500 HD.
Wiped out the Meyers Plow, frame , frontend , possible frame and steering box. Quick guesstimate is about $15,000 in Damage to my brother in laws truck. WHY are people who aren't plowing snow OUT at 4 AM? They should be home in BED.
:headwall :headwall :headwall
Thankfully, my brother in law is ok ( we Think, and he says he feels ok, but I know he is pissed about the truck)

And everything went smooth with me except this idiot passing me on the left and cuts me off but his bumber hit the corner of my plow and swung him right around i droped my plow and t-boned him real good. He try to say it was my fault but the cop saw other wise. For being stupid the guy deserved it. I sould send him a bill for a quart of western paint.

Just got back home after the first initial plowing. Man, what a storm it is! There was 5" on ground when I left, and once I got back home, there already is 12" on ground and still accumulating fast. It is currently snowing heavily right now, and it is getting windy too.
My first round plowing with my Chevy went out pretty good, but I learned quickly that it is not as easy as it was with previous truck (Toyota) I had. I saw that I need to be more careful when driving or backing up close to an obstacle. Also I wish that I have the heated wiper blades installed prior to this storm. The wiper blades are freezing up like crazy as the snow continue to fall pretty heavily. Next week I am going to make sure I get it installed. I wish that the passenger side extended cab have defroster strips because it is fogging up all the time and I could not see it very well. I also am learning and trying to get used with the Fish Stik - it is different than the solenoid joystick control, but I am starting to like it. :)
Lunch break for me now, then it's time to go out for second round! :D

12-06-2003, 01:14 PM
Well, just got back from doing second round of plowing. This is unbelievable .... 19 inches of snow on ground when I got back home and it is still accumulating, but at slower rate. My second round went a little more smoother than the previous round, since I am getting used with Fish Stik. ;)
The snow is slowing down but it is unclear whether when I will be making another round. Anyway here is a pic of my truck plowing in action. :D

Im tired
Sorry i fell asleep. LOL, this was a Wonderful storm. And all i have to say is thank god for fisher. The new (to me) meyer set up did OK. It did have two major problems tho. One; the E-60 motor died $139.00 repair after just 3 hours of plowing. 2 hours to repair the back on the road. Then after 27 stright hours of plowing ON THE LAST acount, the pivot pin sheard and blade fell off (only held on by springs :headwall . So the problems happend at good times so knock on wood next storm will be better. Fisher had zero problems. I need to sleep Ive had like 3 hours in lastt 48.

Well,
I made it through round two with no major problems. I only had time to take a couple pics. I will post them later. We got a total of 12+ inches here in Bear. I dumped 4+ tons of salt just in one subdivision. For you guys that met Rob at the BBQ I will have to fill you in on something funny he did with my chevy. Well it wasnt funny at the time. Lets just say it involves stacking and a tow strap. Gotta go for now I wanna inspect the accounts and start working on the billing. Can you say kakakakakak CHING!!!!!!!!

Saturday December 6th- Went out from 8am-2pm and plowed/sanded the driveways on my route. Took a break from 2-4pm and went back out at 4pm. One the second driveway i went off the edge of a driveway and got stuck. I called me boss and they pulled me out 1/2 hour later. I finished the driveways at 8:30pm and went home for the night.
Sunday December 7th- Went out at 8am-1pm. Finished the driveways at 12pm and then did additional sanding accounts from 12-1. First time out with a different truck, other than being stuck, no problems or breakdowns, even with a meyer!!

BKrois- nice pics! I really enjoy getting home in the wee hours of the morning and listening to how quiet it is. It's amazing how a fresh coating of snow just makes things look clean and really puts a quiet into the air that cannot be found any other way. It's realy great if you have the option of being able to go out hunting in the woods after a snow like that. it is just amazing what you can see or hear then.

Hey Bill!!! Id say we had somewhere between 13 and 15 inches at my doorstep. It was hard to judge since we had sooo much wind blowing and drifting the snow.
The Jeep can build some pretty good sized piles. Last year it stacked a lot during the blizzard.

Thanks Jay! I know what you mean with the blowing and drifting snow- I live between two lakes- one does freeze during the winter, but the wind still builds up speed going across them and when we get lake effect we have to deal with drifting problems alot! Glad to see you made it through the storm with no major issues!

Actually my truck do have ballast in the rear, plenty of it. I built a strudy ballast block and put sand tubes in there. Around 900# of ballast. That really helps alot with traction, even through the tires are Firestone Steeltex. Never got stuck in this 23" storm, and I hope I never will. However, I make sure that I leave extra braking distance due to increased weight on truck.
The pushing power is incredible on my Chevy, it surely do push alot more snow than the previous Toyota I had. The 6.0L gas engine is powerful, it has plenty of power and it just push deep snow pretty good. Also the extra ballast in rear do help with traction so it can keep on pushing snow.
Here is a pic of my truck with ballast box full of sand tubes.

30+ Inches of white concrete is not my idea of fun:headwall
All in all it has gone well. Only minor breakdowns that were able to be fixed on site within a half hour each and everything is still running.
I am at a point were it is all loader work now so I will have my JD 344H Loeder, and the JD 210c backhoe plus I called in two more JD 410 backhoes from the contractor that does alot of work on campus for us and I can't forget the Bobcat I lease from a Landscaper. Had to put the snowblowers on the two smaller John Deere tractors that take care of the sidewalks.
I ended up being in that band they were talking about on the news in the Beverly, Peabody area that got over 32 inches. Next time would whoever ordered this please don't order it all at once?? 4" at a time spread out over a month would be better. LOL

IN boston we must of got at least 3 feet of snow with now where to put it.
We got anywhere from 2-3'.
The higher amounts were out near the mountains just to the east of me.They offically measured 32" in the town of Sand Lake,NY.
My brother in laws house is even higher in elevation then there in town.I went up to push back the banks he made with is 4 wheeler today and it's really deep, some of the drifts are over 5-6' deep.
And he just sold his old trojan loader in the last 2 weeks.Thought he'd be able to handle it with the quad if he stayed at it.he's second quessing that train of thought right about now needless to say.
If i remember to bring the camera i'll snap some photo's of around here.

ALright, youse guys, quit hogging all that snow for yourselves.
Send some of it back to the midwest!
Seriously, I know it's no fun dealing with that quantity of snow, so how about just sending 6-8" over here. You can keep the rest.
Good Luck to ya!

Heres one S.A.McLeans in Limerick, Maine. Ran down there yesterday to pick-up some wing parts. He has probably 20 or so Walters and Oshkosh's lined up. Hundreds of plows and sanders, snowblowers etc... Always fun to poke around there and admire the rusty iron.

Bill,
She was having a great time. I had to stop for a second and my wife took the picture, I wish she didn't take the picture with my Nextel jambed in my ear. The Director of Physical Plant radioed me to ask a snow related question.
Speaking of Nextel,
I carry a Fire Dept. Pager, a two way Radio and a Nextel plus the loader has a mounted two way radio and we have 4 channels that we use at the college and I have to monitor all 4 chanels because Public Safety is on a seperate channel. Talk about overcommunicating!! Anyway, I finally saw my office today for the first time since Friday night. The Office Manager came in to my office to breif me on some snow related calls she had recieved and one of the guys Nexteled me. I picked up the Telephone on my desk and said hello. She broke out laughing and said, " I think you need to go home and sleep"

Here's the only one I took, I was so busy I didn't have much time to stop.
This is a County road, about a mile from my home with hay fields on both sides. It's a bad area for drifting, for most of the storm only one lane was open due to the wind.

Unfortunately, my cheap little digital camera's battery died during the storm so I lost my "action photos". Here's the greene giant in the yard taking a well deserved rest after 30 + hours of plowing and winging.

atgreene, do you have much trouble with that truck? Our Town highway has one similar to that, every time I see it with the wing down, it's traveling sideways. Doesn't seem like enough truck for all that plow.

Gordyo,
Really cool pics there.
And nice to see another father making time for his little one. I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and all she wants is daddy's time. And yes, I give it to her now while she wants it, because when she gets older I will be running after her for some time......hahaha!
Oh yeah, I hope that 64 hours wasn't straight through!

Crazygator,
No it was not straight. I got 2hrs of sleep after a salt run Friday night and then got called back at 3:00am Saturday morning. I did get a break late Saturday night when Team B relieved us but we finished up with the bulk of the storm 11:00pm on Monday night. Now we are pushing banks back and opening drains like probably everyone else is. This is the first time I have seen more heavy pieces of equipment running down the roads than cars!!

Pelican, I haven't had much trouble with it pushing sideways. I have plowed with Internationals, Ford 8000's and the Topkick. They all worked well, but the International was probably the best. The Fords wouldn't keep the windshield clear of ice but had good visability. If the truck is being pushed sideway, it may be that they have adjusted the wing rib-cage too far forward, putting a shallow angle on the wing. Or the push arms may be too long. With proper weight and adjustment, and not crowding, they shouldn't have a problem. Some of my regular residential driveways were done with the topkick, without problems. The roads I plow went great. I should have bought one earlier. The biggest issue is the 2 wd. If you are careful, plan your moves, load appropriately and drive responsibly, there aren't many places I can't go.
Just got some of my pics developed so here are some more for the thread: Almost time to break out the yard stick. This was 9" after the first "impulse" was finally done around mid night Friday.
I thought this summed up what happened well when I saw it early Sunday morning LOL. The first row of the raling on the landing was 12" from the landing to the bottom of it.
The Blazer & the F-250 happy to be playing in the snow at the end of round 1.

I finally have time to post a couple pics. I didnt get a chance to take many. It seems Jay has more time than me to take pictures. Our final snowfall amount for this storm was 12.7 inches. All went well. Rob got the Chevy stuck at the end of the night Saturday. He was trying to build one of those famous nine foot piles and drove so far up on it that the plow dropped behind the pile and we had no ballast in the truck because we used all the salt up that he just sat there spinning the tires. I had to pull him out with the ford. He still insists he wasnt stuck he was just hung up. I don't know what the difference is. All I know is that I had to drag him out of the pile. So in my book thats stuck!!! I wish I would of thought of it at the time I should of took a picture. I was too mad to think about the camera at the time.

Rob got hung up in a pile??
I know what he means.Happen to me for that storm as well. It's that damn a- frame that likes to collect snow and stop your truck in its tracks.I would like to see that try to happen with a sky-jacker lift with 40 inch tires. Then again you wouldn't make it that far with 40 inch tires in the snow.
Nice pictures everyone.

I was just curious as of the little paintings on your blade.Looks like some children had some fun with spray paint? What are the pictures of?
I had a great idea for a set of Shark's teeth on the blade, I think that would look real bizar.

Here's a pic of what we had for conditions towards the end of the storm. It rained heavily for about 1/2 hour, then the crust froze on top about 1' thick. You can see the crust broke in sheets in this pile I pushed up.

Picked up my son from school yesterday & the plow is still on, and the other kids walking by at the time loved it.
