Well as the day is progressing the trend is for this storm to travel further north and the Met boards are pushing up their predictions...........it went from NYC getting 1 to 2 inches to now some Mets hinting at 6 to 10 inches!!!

Im not holding my breath but I thought I would start a thread to start discussing what you fellas are hearing in your states........

Well Jay considering im only a town away from you im willing to bet we hear the same reports :)

Channel 8 geoff fox says he changed his forecast and is now calling for a plowable snow for us thurs night.

Nbc 30 was holding back a little but did add light snow in the forecast and said stay tuned...

NWS says snow as of this morning, still not sure on how much but said good chance of advisory level snows.

If the trend keeps up me may getting busy again real soon :)

I prefer night plowing to day plowing! It's such a PITA tyring to plow the roads when people are all over the place during the day. No one wants to give an inch and everyone is so impatient. It's perfect when we go out overnight and can finish up by 6 am or so. Of course it hardly ever works out that way, but it does seem like we are out much more at night than during the day.

Now looks like the 4-8 will be on the cape with less to the north. Saying up to 4" north of the pike, goes down to 2" up towards the NH border. Also supposed to be very light powder.

I agree with everyone else... night time is so much easier than days... no idiots on the road...

I also have a couple of customers that are on a road that during the day time are near blind sections of the road... night time at least I can see the car coming ...

and for me and probably most others.. less cars on the road .. and also less having to stop at stop signs... at 3am who really stops for a stop sign in a blizzard while plowing ...

yes, that's true, i have several driveways that are on bad corners or have lots of shrubs at the end of the driveway. my plow or spreader is far out int he road before i can even start to tell who's coming during the day.

my gold center lot that is located on a busy highway, i have to clear out two entrances, which means sometimes backinginto the slow lane of traffic to get the right angle. you would think when a single car or maybe two are coming up the highway, they see me trying to back out. and they are in the slow lane, why can't they move to the fast lane instead of just staying where they are and making me wait. my light is flashing, backup lights on, etc. and people are so stupid. i've even had other plowers just stay in the slow lane and force me to wait until they pass to go. where did common sense go in this country? i'm starting to think we are a dying breed.

I too prefer night plowing (early morning ) the lack of traffic is really nice and it is so quiet since I installed the urethane edge

Well the NWS finally upped us to a WSW for 5-8", joining all of the other local forecasters. :) You guys are talking about the night vs day plowing, and the NWS caster summed it up well in their AM discussion:

.OVERVIEW...
FIRST WIDESPREAD WINTER STORM TO OCR ON A WORK AND SCHOOL DAY THIS SEASON. THIS WILL NOT BE AN EASY COMMUTE HOME TNGT.

Will have to remember how to manage storms with the traffic & BS again. Been a lucky season so far here with all night or holiday or weekend events. Will actually have to salt before plowing again, been a while since we did that too. Good luck to everyone in the path & be safe! plowing! payup

School is out for the week here so atleast there will be less busses on the roads. If it comes in around rush hour we will have an hour of so of spinouts and crashes on the highway (happens everytime)I dont plan on heading out untill later tonight its supposed to be a very light fluffy snow.

We ended up getting six inches. The snow wrapped up around 3:30 am. We finished around 8 am. Went and loaded up on more salt in anticipation of a possible "major" event for Tuesday. I hear you on that time clock issue, Pete. I don't know what day it is, is it morning or night?

Started at 2 AM and was done by noon. 8" of powdered sugar. It was easily the fluffiest powder snow I have ever plowed. Alot of fun to play with. Billing is done for the week.

Good one for us!! 7" nice powder. By time we had to plow there was alot of hard pack. Long night it could of been shorter we started plowing to soon based on the report snow should end at 1 am but it didnt stop until 430 am. Went thru alot of salt. Still have to refuel equipment tomorrow and pick up the bobcat from one of the jobs. To tired to do it tonight. No breakdowns or incidents to report. Ran low on salt but found some today and picked it up. Time to get ready for the next one. Hope everyone had a good run.

Rain then a change over to snow wet heavy 6-12" stuff .

All in all a really easy push... light powdery snow...

Storm on President's day was much wetter and heavier to push.

This last one made my eigth plowable event this season... not great as far as quantity but then again its alot better than 2 plowable events or less.!!!!

Upcoming storm looks like 1 - 3" and change over to rain so far but way tooooooooooooo early to nail it down.

We have this all the time. When we're cleaning up the intersections, people will not wait or sometimes even slow down. We plow town roads, btw. Typically our first run is to get things opened up. We'll break, then our second run is to clean up, eg curb to curb, all intersections and cul-de-sacs. It's like people can't be bothered waiting a minute for us to get an intersection cleaned up. Then they get pissy if they can't get through it too! It's a no-win situation.

Recently we've been taking more time during the first run to get the roads curb-to-curb and will also clean up the intersections at this time. It's been better, especially during the overnight, than trying to do it once the traffic starts. That leaves us with the cul-de-sacs to go back and clean up. I like it better this way.
