Just curious, by now you should all be booked solid, and have all your contracts signed. Is anyone waiting on any? The latest forecast should help them sign now.

Well, I was planning on taking it easy this season by dropping a lot, but we just picked up roughly a 30 acre mall. The 30 acres is just the size of the lots and lanes.

Booked. I'll take on the odd one that I like if it fits in the route, or if they don't mind waiting for "next day" service.:cash

I'm with mac. I can take on more, but i'm at a good spot right now. I wouldn't mind filling in around a few stray residentials, but if I can't its not a big deal.

BWhite, I have the same problem. Can't say no, but I can say that will be $60.00 when three weeks ago I would have said $40.00! :cash

The weather forcast made the phone ring alright. We picked up four more today and I can honestly say we're full. I will probably consider more if they are on our existing route and are easy pushes. I did drop a few PIA driveways this year. Some are just not worth the time you have to spend on them.

NO:headwall
Put in a bid in a decent sized lot a while back. I bid it pretty competitively or so I thought.
Found out I was lowballed by 1/2 of my bid:eek:
Guess some folks like to work for free.
I can always use some more work,

Speedracer I had somethink like that a while back I went up gave the guy in charge of this particulare property a price and said that there is a guy that would do it for less than a third of what I could do it for.I told him to hurry and get him quick.there is one thing to bid and do it a little lower or maybe be new and go low to get some work to pay for the equipment but to do it for practically nothing They have to be a fool .

I was holding out waiting on a nice size lot. Didn't happen so I have most of my old customers. I dropped a few more this year to condense my route more.
One guy I dropped told me he just bought another building in the area that I plow but he wants one company to do his home and his 2 buildings. I went and looked at the new building yesterday. Very small, little place to stack. I told him thanks, but no thanks. His home is about 20 minutes off my route and although it's a good hit, it's my only one in that area.
He called me tonight and told me he has 2 other neighbors that want it done. These people live within a stones throw of Allen Iversons laywer. Very affluent part of town.
If I write the neighbors, he's in but the price of poker is going up:D .:cash
I always have room for those people who come running up to my truck with cash in hand.

Last week I got a call about a 4 hr shopping center. Just got an old friend with a skid steer to buy a blade with wings. He couldn't afford the pusher to just sit all summer. Contract signed, mini light bar goes on skidder this weekend. Blade picked up next week.
Then we'll be cooking real strong. We only had 1 storm to date. Normal is 3. I hope we ain't in trouble...:grinz

Chuck,
Not full and kinda glad to have some slack to play with.
I took on some extra work driving tractor - trailer, hauling priority mail for the Christmas rush (3 weeks). Steady, paying job till snow flies.
Snowjoker can pick up the pieces if I get in trouble. Thanks for the networking, we were able to connect and we can help each other out.
Things could change real quick if we get some plowable snow.

:( I think the OH S**T factor comes to mind. Thinking no and saying no are 2 different things. After last year, got to thinking about consolidating some things and all of a sudden..BAM things wound up a whole lot larger than last year. The good news is we went from 2 trucks to 4, a friend with a truck, and a hand full of subs, a bobcat and a shipment of salt that couldn't be delivered from when I was quoted a price!!!! Now I'm looking at possibly a couple pushers, for some reason none of the manufacturer's has any they will let you demo for a storm. How am I supposed to buy without a test drive?

I have signed over 170 residential contracts and three commercial lots! I could sign anouther 50 driveways and still be ok! I signed four new contracts today, due to snow in the forcast. Its 11:00pm now and its still raining here:D .

Our 30 trucks are booked for a 6 hour push. Our subs can still handle more, and if somebody doesn't mind waiting till later in the day, we'll still add 'em in. Never say no, just get a better price.

Mike Gamb, you're right, I owe it all to you! Thanks again! I just hope that my garden tractor with the 48" blade and my grainger shovel can handle the foot of snow that's predicted to fall over the 30 acre lot! Perhaps I should put the wheel weights and chains on?
Mark, come on down. You can join the parade.
Good luck to all. Be safe and prosperous.

I'm pretty booked, can't/don't want to take on any more. Anyone in my area (woburn/burlington, ma) looking for work? I am turning people down and can give referrals for mostly residentials.

I lost about 4-5 hrs this year. My biggest commercial account (3.5hrs) went out of business, also I had a nice size one taken by a guy that works for around $35.00 per hr. With the addition of some salting and not needing my sub I come out at about the same as last year.

I still have some spots to fill, and I got a couple more calls for residential accounts today. I have been doing some listening and talking to the local business people lately and from the sounds of things not too many people are happy with their current contractors. This season may get very interesting and I might pick up some more commercial accounts- especially since right now my lots are clear while most of the other businesses have slush and or ice in them! I had to go back after hours to do some of my clean up, but it only took me about 40 mins to do both accounts, and that was stopping to have some coffee and flirt with the gas station attendant! LOL! I was listening to the people stopping in and they were complaining about how the WalMart lot was a mess, and a couple of the other businesses. I can't go after WalMart right now ( needs heavy equipment, something I can't swing this year) but In the spring I will definitely be talking with the manager about a seasonal contract for sure!!!!
