View Full Version : Problem with a new Hiniker

So I decided to get back into pushin snow for some extra cash. So I bought a 9" Hiniker Poly Trip Edge. Install was pretty easy and got it finished up last night. So I get the plow onto the truck (2004 Dodge 2500 CTD if ya care) and fill the tank with fluid per the instructions. Fire up the truck and try to lift the plow to get the air out of the lines and it goes up and crash's back down. So I figure the tank is already low but only about a half an inch below the full line. So I fill it up and try agian, same thing! Plow goes up and comes back down before I even let go of the controller.

So I try to angle it from side to side and get the air out of the lines and hit the right and the plow goes up:confused: So I hit the left side, same thing plow goes up:confused: At this time I think I have the wiring all jacked up so pull out the diagram and take a look. As I'm following the wires to the solinoids I touch the lines going to the angle cylinders and burn my damn arm!

So at this point I pull all the wiring and do it agian. Still won't work, push the control in any direction but down and the plow goes up:headwall So now I'm mad as hell and still burning my damn arms on the lines.

So now I gotta figure out how to get this 1000 lbs monster off the front of my truck. Since I had it on a dolly and when I lifted the plow the dolly went rollin down the driveway:headwall So I have my wife come out and try to lift the plow via the controller while I try and drop the leg so I could back out of it. I used my head and found out that, that was not the best plan.

So I grabbed some straps out of the back of my truck and hook the straps up the side of the plow and then to the back of my Jeep. Worked just great if I would have remembered to disconnect the wiring :headwall So now I have the plow off my truck and need to rewire the harness to the plow since I ripped it off in my moment of glory.

So does anybody have any clue why the plow would only go up even when you hit the joystick to the right or left side and why in heck are the lines so hot I burn my arms? I'd take it to a local shop but since I was stupid and bought the plow over the internet I'm boned unless I bend over really far!!! All the wiring checked out so I am really confussed on what to do next:confused:

Let's see ......... where to start........

Lines were probably hot due to mis wiring of the ground and power or the solenoid under hood. Getting full load at deadhead and trying to run continously.

As for lifting instead of any other movement and constant drop.......

WIRING issue on the blade side most likely. Getting constant power to the drop coil and no power to the other coils, Lift is the default function so when the motors on the plow lifts.

Just a though what to do.............Pentance and humbling ..... Make an appointment ( don't demand they get you in right away ) at your local shop and get it fixed.

My daughter said she was seeing some sparks from the fork pockets when I was trying to get it to work. I attached the big black wire from the battery and the small black wire to the ground bolt on the motor. Is this the correct way of grounding it?

I would be heading off to see a professional install shop, before you do any more damage.

If you don't know what your doing, you could damage a lot of things, including your new truck.

The problems listed are a little too complex to diagnose over the internet.Check the power and grounds, and all connections. If there is nothing obvious, take it to a dealer and have it done right.

Pioneer, Depending on the harness changes they have made you need to have the large black wire under hood to the negative on the battery. The large red from the positive on the battery to the solenoid and then the largre red from the solenoid to the plow harness.

On the plow end the Black goes to the frame of the pump unit not to the stud on the side of the motor. The red goes to the stud on the motor.

The standard motor has a stud out the side for the power and then uses frame of the motor/pump for ground.

If you were getting the hoses hot then there was defiantly a ground/power issue.

P.S. Give a call later today.....after 3p.m. est if you're still up in the air on it.

According to the directions and how I wired it, is just as you said under the hood. But on the plow end the instuctions showed the "large black wire" (battery ground) connected to the pump motor via a small 3/8X1/2 long bolt and the red going to the insulated lug. I didn't see anywhere where I could attach them to the pump itself but this could just be my understanding of your instructions. I will give ya a call later when I get home tonight or maybe even next week. My wifes got me headed to Vegas for our 10th anniversary and I still have yet to pack and I'm leavin early Saturday morning.

I did talk with Hiniker and he asked me to check the control wiring with a test light, jumping terminal 3 to 4 to make sure its grounded. Than if that works he said to use jumper cables and ground the plow with them to see if that helps. All is not lost yet, just gotta keep pluggin away at it till I figure out whats wrong. Damn I miss my Meyer:(

Well Jerre thank you very much for the help over the phone!!! I found out it was the ground on the pump motor. When I took the wiring off the pump I notice where it was arching on the ground lug. It was completly cover with powder coat. So I took a grinder and cleaned up the grounding point and took a tap to the threads. Hope it works!!!!!!

Well it didn't work! So I took it in and had it fixed. Turned out it was a bad motor along with a bad ground cable. They found the bad ground cable after they had the chance of catching my truck on fire:rolleyes: So after they got the new battery cable to plow wire hooked up, a new motor, and rewired the ground strap from the cab of the truck to the bed of the truck. They gave me a bill for $1200 bucks!!!!! So now I have to do battle with Hiniker to get that handled under warranty. I hope:mad:

I've always found Hiniker to be really good with warranty issues. Glad to hear you got the problem fixed.
