I was at the motorpool at work today, and since they know I am a snow plow geek, one of them took me aside to ask a couple of questions.....

When he started telling me what happened, I recalled hearing it on the radio at work right after the "blizzard" we got.....

The story goes like this:

Two pickups (SRW service bodies) both 2500's are plowing a road. One close the the center, the other pushing back along the curb. The one pushing back along the curb hit a manhole (though now I think it was a catch basin).
Bent the plow A frame.
Bent the truck frame, as now the passenger door won't open.
The passenger fender has a crease in it.
Tore the bumper off on the passenger side, it's hanging down a good 6"...
The right side mounting ear for the plow is tweaked about 6" down compared the the left.

The plow was off the truck, so I did not see it. I wish I could take pics but I would need a permit for that.

Looks like a Boss mount. I will try to get a closer look.

The best part..... the driver said he was going 5MPH.

More info as I get it....

I guess the bottom line is that he hit something at full right angle, and bent the truck frame. I'll check it out closer when I have a chance....

I would venture to say that with that much damage, he was traveling a wee bit faster than 5mph. A few weeks ago when I had my mishap, if you'll recall, I bent the A-frame pretty good. So much that when raised and angled to the right, the blade dragged on the ground. When straight and dropped, the end was off the ground by a good coupla inches. When I dropped the plow and hit the tree I was probably going about 25mph, as it felt like I picked up a bit of speed once the truck began sliding on the ice going downhill. I also broke the link on the lift chain where it's u-bolted to the A-frame.

It wasn't the worlds worst crash, but I hit pretty hard. Not calling him a liar, but I think you can take his 5mph and multiply that by at lest 5, 6, 7 times.

Chuck,

You need a permit to take pictures at your place??

Why?

I agree, I'm sure he was going a LOT faster then 5 mph to do that kind of damage. It must have been quite the ride for the driver.

5mph he would of bounced off it. The plow can handel that.

20 or so then we can start talking slight frame damage.

5mph...were they using Meyer plows?????

Pete... Because the truck is on, and is government property.

I know there is no way in hell he was doing 5mph. Like I said... "The driver said he was doing 5MPH" LOL.

I'm pretty sure it was a Boss straight blade.

Was it a Boss V ? The guy I purchased my Salt spreader from last spring bent his frame last season. He was plowing roads (cleanup) behind the 10' blade at about 25mph and caught a manhole cover and just about stoped the truck. He did bend up the plow frame and tweaked the truck frame pretty good too. Tore the @#$% out of the Boss left wing.

I would bet the plow was at full angle as well, that way the hydros could not absorbed any force, the cylinder was fuly collasped. It must have "twisted" in a clockwise motion.
