I have a 97 psd f350, i want to replace my stock alternator with something that will handle the plow, spreader, lights etc. i can get by with this one, but the lights dim a bit when i raise my plow up.
i've never replaced one before, and was wondering if there is a special brand i should buy that is better than others, and what amps I should get.
Thanks Guys.

W just replaced one on our 2003 F-250 PSD. The stock one is 110 amps, if you have the "snow plow prep package" yours is 140 amps. We got one at our local NAPA that they claim is 180 amps. No way to actually measure the output, but it worked well during the last 2 storms. The swap was pretty easy, 3 bolts, 2 plugs, and done.

are they mostly rebuilt? or brand new?

I'd only want to put on a new one. 180 amps would be fine. I don't think my truck was ordered with a plow prep package, I bought the truck when it was 3 years old.

thanks for the info guys.

I don't really know if it's rebuilt or not. I don't think it matters much, warranty is good.
