I would like to be able to make use of trailer hitch but have a V box in the back of my truck as well, is this humany possible ?

I would have to jack that salter up a little higher with blocks eh ?
How high ya think ?

Dave.

Seems like you would just end puting alot of salt on the rear of the truck if you went up too high, and even then the drop chute and engine mount do take up some room to the rear of the truck not sure you would be able to turn much without hitting it.

not only that but with the weight of the V-Box would you really want to add the excess weight of a trailer... if it would be possible to do you'd probaly have to have the v box empty as to not overload the back end of the truck...

We put an order in last month for a new SS Downeaster.....with a swing-up chute. Called yesterday and they said it would be ready in a few days. Apparently the chute swings out of the way just for that purpose (trailer hitch use). I haven't seen one yet, but it seemed worth it (by description) for the money. I will post a few pics as soon as we get it.

Yes i have seen the D eastnear or heard of it i should say.

I want to have access to my hitch to haul my snowblower. My trailer is light as a feather and the snoblower is maybe 300 lbs its a Toro 33" 13hp.

If i have sidewlks to do i wana be able to bring it with me.

I have one of those already i think. My trailer is a home made jobie so its low to the ground. Here is a pic of the rear end.

Not diggin' the Altezzas, but the Backrack looks good!

I'm not sure of the specific models, but I would think the chute would clear a trailer attached to the far of a drop hitch, it's pretty low.

I like the look of the carbon fiber ones on a black truck, thats not too bad.

The Halos are pretty cool. I saw one truck with them, they look like possessed or something when they are just glowing. Definately something unique, and eye catching. I'm going to do something about hy fogged lenses, but I want a 94-99 style grille first. Stay away from APC as most of their products are junk.

Snowbowtie

I hear you about that. The parking lights get water in them a lil, the indicator's on the side dont fit completly in the grill they stick out and sometimes fog up.

I dont like the fog lights you got. I'll trade you on the grill.. You can have my 96 Grill if you find me a newer 99 up grill for my truck so i can put HID lights in from Osram Sylvania.

I was gona get the Halo's but noone here sell them in Canada the company is from long beach or close to that area.. Shipping duty and the exchange would have been huge.. I was trying to see if a friend there could send me them market GIFT :)

PM me if you know of any stuff for my truck.

Dave..

P.S. Sorry for going off topic here guys...

Not yet. We picked it up Friday night and had been pretty much out straight till last night. Finally got some much needed sleep and I'll be headed to the shop in a bit to start on the repair punch list from this storm. I'll get some pics of it for you today.

pin side......pretty simple design really:

here is a shot of the chute flipped open. One thing that I was really disapointed in is that there is no way to lock the chute in the open position. It will flip all the way up, but I couldn't hold it up and take the picture at the same time. I will have to fab up an arm of some sort. Both sides of the chute do have removable pins though, so taking the chute completely off is an option.

here is a shot of the top of the spinner shaft. Again, simple design. It does add two more bearings to the complete assembly, but I think it will be worth it.

Here is a shot of the sprocket side of the spinner shaft.

We still have a few things to do to it for it to be complete. We run rubber flaps on the backside deflector on all of our units to keep the truck from getting plastered. Also on the to-do-list are brake/turn lamps and spotlights to light up the work area. An arm of some sort would be nice to keep the chute flipped up for trailering and material unloading.

Those Downeaster are sweet too bad I could not find a dealed in the Chicago area. I would have bought one for sure. Bought a Swenson in stead, they are bulit here in IL and the design od the V boxes are all the same. Did get the 11HP Honda. so far so good.

Good luck NBEN looks like a great unit. Keep us ll updated on its performance.

Hey Ben thanks for posting the pics.. Could you take a picture from further up so we can see the back end of the truck with the salter chute up. They dont make something so the chute cant be held up ? What is the point of it folding up just so you can get rid of excess salt ? One would think if they design it so you can A trailer and B unload they would makesomething to hold it up.

Are you going to put rubber full acroos the back of the truck like a skirt ? You see that on Motorhomes so they keep the road spray down when driveing in rain, thats nice of them aint it *L* :) or you just gona put something the width of the chute. Some guys put light under the bumper for backing up as well as a spot light shineing on the chute .

Ooops sorry didnt see the other pics just went to the last reply..

Is that rust i see on the unit ? I see how it throws sand on everything on the back end, the rubber skirt is a good idea. Do you have sand comeing out at the bottom of the unit under the conveyer / chain ?

Yup, they all do it. We've had 3 Downeasters, a Fisher, a Henderson, and a Swenson. All of them carry some material around the conveyor and end up leaving it under the unit on the truck bed.

nben, what about tiing it up with a tie down strap?

I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. It's on my project list for next week. I plan on making some sort of rigid arm to hold it in the up position, that way it won't "bounce" with the slack of a strap or a chain going over the bumps. For now we have just been pulling both pins and removing the chute completely.
