Is anyone using a set up like this? I want to do the liquid thing but have houses that have lots of walkways a truck mounted sprayer can't fit down.

Why not use it, all they are is a smaller pump and container.

We are using both battery and pump backpack sprayers for some of our hard to reach spots. We pretreat and spray with the snowfall. Works fine for us. The guys flag down the truck if they need a refill. We're putting down Magic or Caliber M1000 (depending on what we are carrying, etc) and love the results. Snow scrapes easier and we get good residual burn.
Hope this helps.
