I have a '93 Chevy that I installed a '91 Meyers plow on. Both used. Tried to push some drifts yesterday and the in-line fuse at the ignition switch was blown when I got in the truck. Replaced the fuse, plow went up and angled but blew when I tried to drop the plow. Changed fuse with same results. Smokes the fuse before the plow hits the ground. Is it possible the "A" coil has shorted out? Any other suggestions? Everything was working fine before that.

Just a suggestion but try disconecting the c-coil and try putting the switch in drop again and see if the fuse blows , the wiring harness could have a short from rubbing on the firewall or something? Just an idea .... good luck , Let us know....

sounds like a problem with the A coil or wire for A coil which would be black.

I would check for wire that is shorted and replace the A coil

Thanks for the replies. I checked for shorts in the wiring and couldn't find any. Then I put an ohm meter on the A coil and it tested low at 5.4 ohms (manual recommends 9.6 ohms) so it looks like this might be the problem. Should have a new one later today and give it a try. Hope this is the problem as we're looking at 6-8 inches tonight and tomorrow.

FYI. It was the A coil that was the culprit. Installed the new one just in time for the storm. Everything worked great after that. :grinz
Thanks for the input.

Here's the best part....yesterday went to plow out some drifted driveways and the truck is dead. Nothin'. Thinking it was a dead battery I hooked the jumper cables up to my diesel and let sit for a few minutes. Still nothin'. :headwall Checked the battery and she's got a full charge! Now I'm stumped and frustrated. Used a small ball peen hammer to lightly tap the ECM and whammo, she started on the next try. I'm not condoning whacking the ECM and I don't know what made me do it and I still don't know if that was the problem, BUT it got the truck started.

Thers an ECM on your diesel? A bad ecm would not stop your truck from cranking. Bet your have some other problem...Rob

Ya I would have to agree with Robh you should check your connections on the starter and the battery , both positive and negative , like I said wiring gremlins can be a bear and when you don`t want them is usually when they rare thier ugly head!! Start simple and work your way up..Good luck..

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It was the ECM on the Chevy plow truck that I tapped. It's just a beater I bought to haul wood and plow the drive. If I had to rely on it to make money, I'd be in trouble. And the diesel has its own set of issues, but that's my daily driver.
