crafty, you are getting way too excited about this storm. it's too far away to even predict, why set yourself up for a disappointment? if it comes, great, we'll be plowing like madmen. but i won't believe anything they say until it actually comes down. too much hype about this whole event, and people wasting too much time worrying about what it's going to do.

The latest model shows NY and the surrounding area getting in the range of approx. 2 feet of snow. Still too early, though. But it sure is enough to get the blood flowing!

Maybe the best post I've seen on any of the weather websites.
Advice from a mellowed snow freak
I have been a snow freak since I was a kid in growing up in the 80s. Allow me to pass along some advice it took me 20 years to learn, in the hopes it will help you maintain your health and hairline while enhancing your enjoyment of the winter season:
1. Manage your expectations: If you live on the coast in the Mid Atlantic and someone is talking about 15 inches for your area and you only get 13 inches, enjoy it. It is still 13 inches.
2. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's snow: If you get 13" on the Mid Atlantic coast and Boston gets 17", don't pout about it. a) They are supposed to get more snow, and b) You have gotten > 10" of snow 8 times in the last 30 years. Don't complain.
3. Pace Yourself: I feel old saying this, but back in "my day" all you had was TWC, the weather on the local news shows at 5:25, 6:25, and 11:25, as well as maybe 7:55 also. Remember the days of 'oh no, they're doing sports, I missed the weather' ? Today you can get your weather fix continuously, which can burn you out. Try to keep your adrenaline from flowing until a maximum of 3 days before the actual event.
4. For crying out loud, if it is snowing heavily outside, don't watch it on the radar on your PC in your basement, go look at the actual snow!
5. If it is snowing heavily outside, don't stare at the radar and wonder long this band will last, please just enjoy the actual snow (see #4 above.)
6. Don't get angry at the weatherman who forecasts the low amount. Those guys are more accurate than we like to admit. Instead, look for sorrow in their voice or a melancholy tone. If one of those guys is saying it will change to rain, guess what, it probably will. If one of those guys is gritting his teeth saying you're going to get up to 6", buy yourself a big snowblower.
7. Remember March 4th, 2001: (This was the one that forced me to mellow.) Any storm, no matter how much of a sure thing it seems, may not pan out for your particular area.

Oh god I remeber that.....that was the supreme let down......forcast 26-36"....got 10"...anyother time 10" would be great....but coming ouy of a 26-36" prediction I almost died.....that day sucked
Sucked to only get 10" ??!! :headwall We got nothing out of that one if I recall correctly, maybe got to salt.
I have to move to a higher snowfall receiving area for sure now, that one put me over the edge :grinz

What sucked was we had gotten all our loaders off jobs, (about 7 loaders), chained them all up, chained up both the Macks, put the wing and roll plow on, chained the Grader and loader backhoes, and all the payroll and time to get to that point was a waste because the 3 feet never came, made everything we did for nothing
