Last week I blew the RH angle cylinder hose when I hit a curb. The blade was 1/2 way angled. According to Western's manual, that under extreme pressure , the relief valve should have transfered the fluid from the RH to the LH cylinder. It appears that this did not take place.

What if any can I check so that this does not happen again?

I don't know the specifics of Western's relief valves, but if you spike it fast enough, no relief valve in the world will catch it.

I don't have that much "real world" plowing experience, but I do know hydraulics. The relief valve is SUPPOSED to prevent that from happening. Of course, I'm assuming that your relief valve was working. I'll leave it to a Western expert to tell you how to remove/clean/check your cross relief. It could be perfectly fine and you just got "un"lucky.

The releif valves are really there to save the powerpack and cylinders, not hoses. Usually the hoses will go first.

They are correct. If you crack something hard enough, then something has to give. The relief valve is only so big,and even when fully open, can only flow so much oil.The hose is usually the weak link.

Using a good quality Parker 2 wire (4000 PSI) hose will help prevent it in the future,as they are a lot stronger and more durable.

Just to add, I usually replace hoses every year. Probably don't have to but for me they are cheap enough that I figure it helps. A new hose is stronger then an old brittle one. Just my two cents, but I have never had a hose split or burst. I did cut one once when a worker ran it through the double life chain of a Fisher.

The good two wire hose is not brittle at all. They are pretty much bulletproof.A good hose should last at least 5 years. The cheap plastic aftermarket stuff are the ones you have to watch.
