Hey guys in the brake flaring thread I noticed our resident mechanic wearing mechanics gloves . I was just wondering what your opinions were of them ? Do they cut down your feeling ie...picking stuff up ....or are they really thin ? Or are they like a good set of wrenches , you just can`t go without them ?? I know I`ve busted a few knuckles and looking at the scars it sure makes me wonder!

I have heard that you can pick stuff up with them but deffinatly agree with saveing the knuckles .

I use them, and like them alot. They do save the knuckles, and are much better for picking things up than any standard gloves. But, don't expect to be able to feel through them like you are wearing latex gloves, they are thicker.

When I'm working on something small, I take them off. But they are great for general work.

I wear them all the time in the shop.I go though a few pairs a month.

I wear Blue Nitrile gloves underneath,to keep my hands clean, and my skin heathly.I have noticed a huge difference in my hands since I started wearig gloves.Fewer busted knuckles, and no more cracked dry hands.

I used them all over my garage; I have gone though a few pairs and I wouldn't use anything else when working with smaller items.

I use them all the time . The time saved in washing up and the lack of damage to your hands make them well worth it . I wish I had used them 25 years ago

I love my Mechanics Gloves..........It looks like I will finally be retiring my current pair though since I can't seem to find the right hand glove :(

I think OJ took it :(

I use them and it has saved my knuckles countless of times. A must have item for your toolbox.

Sound like a pretty positive return on the question , I`ll have to get myself a pair before my next wrench fest ! Hopefully that won`t be for awhile but it is snowing here now...

Iv'e got 3 pairs and counting right now. I love 'em.

You lose a little dexterity but not much. I also get cramps in my hands when I do a lot of mechanical work. The gloves seem to help some, at least while I am working, still bothers after though. These and nitrile gloves when working with chemicals (fuel carb/brake cleaner etc) will really save your hands from a lot of damage. Like other I wish these were around twenty years ago.

Just to let you know there is a lifetime warrentee on normal wear and tear on the mech gloves. I bought mine from auto zone and Ive taking them back 3 times now. The last time they tried giving me some crap about sending them the the factory i said no way no how. They still wouldnt exchange them. I went and called the district manager told him Ill never buy another thing there, he told me to take them back to the store and tell them to exchange them . And if they said anything to have them call him. Well i did and i got my gloves. If you look real close at the package you will see thet you have a warrentee on them.....Rob

On the true "Mechanix Wear" gloves, the warranty is only 90 days.I'm looking at the package right now. It's also posted on their website here (www.mechanix.com)

Sometimes certain retailers will team up with them, and provide a "special" gloves, which may have a lifetime warranty with the selling dealer. You can't go wrong with something like this.

Since I wear out several a month,I have switched from the expensive ones ($40-50),to the discount brands from Wal-Mart or Home Depot. They are only $10-15 a pair, and work just as well. Not quite as much padding in the palm, but I like this,as it gives you more mobility. If I need the heavy palm padding (like when using big impact tools),I just switch to a heavier glove anyways.

I bought a pair and use them all the time. Especially on brake work and other nasty jobs. I hand wash them and then hang them in front of my shop heater. Like new again.

I see at Advance Auto they have a pair of gloves with a work light built into them. Looks kinda cool but pricy. I think around $35.00 a pair. Anyone try these?

They are great. Just not very good for welding. I had my set sitting next to the vise while welding something in the vise. Well a spark landed right on them and melted right through both gloves. :soapbox I had just taken them right out of the package. I never got to even put them on.
