I have a 16 HP "c" model and I have a 36 inch GHS deck and a 36 inch side discharge deck. It has about 850 hours on it. I have had very few proplems with it so far, the worst I have broke is the throtle cable. I don't know how I got by before I bought the Walker. Which model you get would depend on what size deck you intend or running. I only run a 36 inch deck so the 16 hp is fine for me but if you intend on running larger decks you will need more HP. I have heard many people complain about the maintenance on Walkers but I don't see it, all I do is change the oil and grease it up once in a while. They are not the fastest machine but for tight area or leaf clean-up they are great.
My dealer was telling me the liquid cooled engines and diesels are very expensive and might not be worth getting. The liquids are nice because they are quieter if you use them for snow removal in the middle of the night. Overall if you keep up with the regular maitenance a Walker should last you years.
Where in Canada are you?

Im from Port Colborne (by welland On.) tried a walker demo for a few days and like it alot except i found that I tied up my trailer with clippings then no place to put tractor. were as a zero tern with a bagging unit I could put the clippings in the truck. 2nd I found the traction on a hill was very poor the high side always wanted to slip. not sure if the servos or pumps may have needed setting up. who in Toronto area has the best pricing on walkers? thanks craig

I don't think anything was wrong with that Walker, they don't like hills, you can get a rear wheel lock that helps but I'm not sure how much. If you don't like the clipping you can sidecharge or get a "No Catch" deflector from Walker. I only collect grass/leaves in the fall, the rest of the time the clippings go back on the lawn.
I was at my dealer the other day and they had a special on a 18 hp. side discharge for about $9800. I'm not sure if that is a good price or not.

Hills can be tricky, more technique than anything else. That's one of the reasons we stay away from the 9 bushel hoppers (too much weight up high). You have to drive it like a front wheel drive car (keeping the weight over the drive wheels). Once you get it down you can hang with the best of them.

How about the walker walk behind mower. Anyone seen one of these Walker Walk Behind. (http://www.walkermowers.com/index.htm1?section=new) in use. The ground speed isnt too fast.
I guess the only benefit to me would be that it cuts nice. Think i could sneek a 48" deck into a 36" gate. The deck lifts up so i might be able to. Has anyone put a 48" in a 36" gate ?

Ive got two exmarks. One walk behind and one zero turn...
I love them... I have the ultra vac for my 52inch hp .. it works great on leaves. I use the bag for the walk behind on leaves too..
I have looked at the walkers.. I may try one some day... I always hear the same thing, they are slow, alot more mant. , and cant side discharge or muclh as easily as the exmarks.....
My exmark is good on hills too....
I think the walkers leave a very nice cut, and by looking at them, I would imagine there good in tight spots...
Walkers are good machines, alot of guys around here use them. Have you looked at exmarks...

the utltra vac is for the ztr. Its driven off the pulley closest to the diescharge and is a two bag syste. Works very well. I use mine wint the mulch blades and it fits alot into the bags. I have a bag system for the walk behind also.. its a standard collection bag..
The ultra vac system goes on and off in about 30 seconds, for side discharge.:canada
