I have owned a 2000 Ford Superduty with a 7.3 diesel for about
18 months. Vehicle has 72,000 miles on it.

Today I happened to notice shortly after starting it and going down the road that I saw the oil pressure suddenly drop from about what I normally see considerably down.

This was stopped at a light at idle, I thought I heard a small click, possibly electrical, it stayed there briefly, and then I heard the
click again and it returned to its normal running location. had nothing to do with rpm.

normally the oil pressure gauge runs between half to 3/4.
when this happened it went to just about half?

Of course went into panic mode, check oil level, crawled under to check for any possible leaks, etc.

Did not find anything wrong, vehicle seems to be running fine, maybe it has done this all the time, and I happened to just see it today, as it is very quick, maybe 30-45 seconds in length??

The gauges on the PSD's aren't "real" gauges, they are more like idiot lights. The oil pressure gauge receives a voltage when there is oil pressure, no voltage when no oil pressure. Nothing in between.

Not sure on when they changed the gauges, but some still had "real" oil pressure gauges that read actual pressure.

You most likely have a bad oil pressure sending unit.

Don't worry about the oil pressure on the PSD. If you loose oil pressure the engine will shut off within a few seconds. This isn't some cool safety feature Ford dreamed up, but rather a function of the High Pressure Oil Pump requiring engine oil to pressurize the injectors. No oil, no injector, no fuel.
