What excatly will be needed to swap a 9' pro plow unimount from a 96 F 350 PSD pick up to an 05 F 350 PSD pick up?
A friend just bought the 05 and asked me what he might need.

New truck side mounting frame and new wiring harness. Brand new it will cost close to $1000. But sometimes you can find deals on e-bay for much less.

Can't get Uni-mounts any more, but you can install the Ultra-mount with a Uni-mount adapter kit to fit older plows. Now you can hitch up to either one.

Does he need the isolation modual? Or do they still have relays for head ight control?

They recommend using the iso module for pretty much everything now.It still can be easily done with relays if needed.

They don't make the unimounts anymore but I've found that my local dealers have some in stock.(Mounting kits that is) I think it adds another $2-300 for the ulta to unimount conversion kit.

I was going to put my 8-1/2' unimount on my '04 Chevy. But after finding out it would cost over $1200, I just sold it for $2500. Then I bought a new Pro Plus 8' for a little over $4k installed. It worked out to be about the same out of pocket money and I ended up with a new and better plow.

I'm not sure what he needs for headlights on the new Ford. I've only done Chevy and Dodge installs. If its anything like the newer Chevys he will need a complete lighting wiring harness and change the lights on the plow.

A unimount will not fit the 05 ford (fords change), western is still making uni-mounts avaible but they are not building any to fit new models or model changes in new trucks, as for the harness, that depends on the headlights on the truck, most are coming with an HB13 bulb and you will need to go with the isolation module if thats whats on the truck, if its a 2B bulb (square galss bulb) you can still use a relay harness.

Dino,

Jesse had the the right idea. List the old plow on Ebay and use that money toward a new plow. Only thing I would have done different than Jesse is....Well you know now, Dino is put a Blizzard 810 on the new truck. The 810 on my 05 F-350 PSD is just awesome. After all that old plow has some serious hour on it at this point and even the Ultra mount improvements will give him a better plow. FWIW.

F350 had a frame change in late Nov 2004. Make sure the undercarriage kit you get is for a truck built after 12-03. Check the date built tag on the door. Ford made a frame change around thanksgiving og 03 and did'nt tell anybody right away. ask me how I know:( :( :( We also had to do the ultramount to unimount bracket. If he has the turn lights in the mirrors, he will also need another kit for the turn signal light(basicly another relay because with the plow there is too much on this circuit) With the isolation module, you will probably end ep with 3 hookups in the front of the truck, and your unimount will only have 2. So you will have to convert your plow over if you use the isolation module with the ultramount, as the lights are now seperate from the hydraulics!!!

if it was my truck I wouldnt even debate about how to handle the plow situation. I was just trying to help my friend out. I suggested a new plow, but he didnt want to spend the money. I figured it would cost at least 1K to make the unimount work, but thought I would ask here before I informed him of the bad news.
Thanks for the input lets see if I can get him to get smart get wide get the gogo gadget plow.
