It finally came in. 9.5' Everest quick-switch dustpan for our HD3500 with the wing (I'm sure some of you remember pics from the other site). Have to make a few changes before it will hook up, but it should be super on the roadways compared to the Fisher 9'.

Just watch out during a warm storm where hardpack may be softening. When angled full right, those plows have the ablity to send a truck across the road when the plow digs in. The best way to prevent this is to not run the plow full angle right.
Geoff
I will get some pics as soon as I get it hooked up.
Geoff, Thanks for the tip. I could see where that could happen. I remember one of the town trucks here caught some cold-patch at a bridge construction site and took a van head-on about 7-8 years ago. He wasn't going fast at all, just slid the truck right over.

How about if you run shoes, and let them hold the plow up off the ground just a tad? Does that plow even come with shoes?? Im assuming it does, like any normal plow. Mike :)

Running shoes isn't required. Just keep you hand on the controller and when the plow begins to dig, lift up a little.

Nice looking plow. Is that going on a conventional mount or a minute mount hook up? Should work good wiht your side wing. Make sure you get some pics of it in action. plowing!

It's a conventional mount. Originally the truck had a MM1 on it, but when I built the wing set-up, I felt the permanent push plates were a better foundation to tie things together. Here's a pic.....

I have been waiting to see Everest's site fully up and functioning. They have been building the site for months now. Should be done very soon.
That should be an Awesome small road truck.

Ok, finally got it hooked up and working. The thing is a MONSTER! The truck seems to carry it fine, but it sticks out there plenty. Sorry about the night pics, I will try and some better ones in daylight.....

WOW, that looks awesome and all on a 3500 DRW chasis. I bet it can plow great but how does it drive with both plows up and that mountain of salt?
Just curious is all. I know my F-450SD PSD with the 8.5' V plow and the 9' dump half full of pretty dry fresh salt scaled at a no **** 22,500LBS and empty it was 11,000LBS. I'll bet that truck as picture would scale at least 30,000lbs if not move.
That is a brave man driving that truck, and make a ton of money too. This is the funny exact oppisite of the "Heavy Duty" thread posted by Pelican.
NBEN, you are a plowing mad man. I would love to see that thing plowing with the big boys. I know you must have made a ton of money in the last storm. Looks like that would be 10 time faster than both of my trucks, and the sub working.......
:cash :cash :cash is what this is all about. :burnout

Excellent set-up. How do you get through the drive-up window at Dunkin-Donuts?
Yeah, it's on the heavy side. The truck scales about 24,000 loaded like it is. We don't normally plow with the hopper loaded like that (poor transmission)......ice prediction for last night (that fizzled of course). Our other HD3500 has the same vee-box and a 9.5' fisher vee. That truck is right about 22,500 loaded to the top. Like everyone else in the area (municipal trucks included), we play the weight game. Fortunately there aren't too many 800 units out in the storms. Not saying it's right, but not much different than an 8' vee-box loaded to the gills in the back of an 8600 GVW pick-up with a 9' (or larger) plow.
The reason that we went with the 9.5' Everest (it does dwarf this truck) is that our next truck will most likely be a C5500 or equivalent. The plow will last a long time (that wing is 12 seasons old now!) and will be around for our next truck, which isn't too far down the road now. The HD is a great chassis (10,000 lbs. trailer and still only need a class C license), but we find ourselves playing the weight game way too much. In the summer we use that truck daily hauling material, 2.5 yds. of class 5 puts the trucks overweight. Scary to think of all the 1 ton trucks (12,000 and 12,500 GVW) in and out of the pit with three yards of material or more.

nBen-
That's a great looking Everest plow, plus the wing, that would be a great rural road truck, at least around here. What kind of roads, lots, etc does it usually plow?
I still have the pictures of the wing setup linked to on my browser. What a cool custom setup! :burnout

We currently plow 8 private roads/subdivisions with this truck. Ocasionally it is found playing around in a lot or two, but now with the one way it isn't going to be an effective stacker.

Now that's a plow truck.
UPDATE
Got through the last storm ok and finally have some time to catch up on some things. We've been busy in the shop fixing some minor issues and going over everything so we won't have to do much during the holiday week.
The new plow worked unbelievable. How we went so long with the Fisher is beyond me. It started snowing Sunday afternoon at a pretty good rate. After midnight, it was coming down at a rate of 3" an hour or so. By 4, it was mixing with sleet and freezing rain, making everything slick and HEAVY. Surprisingly, the truck had little trouble pushing.
The only problem I had was sharp right turns ( I always plow the cul-di-sacs backwards first to eliminate huge snow banks in front of the driveways). I found that I had to keep the wing about 6" up on the first trip around in order to keep the front of the truck where I wanted it. With the Fisher, a quick angle to the left was all it took.
The plow speeds are incredible with this plow. I quickly found that 20-30 mph was not out of the question at all. No snow on the windshield, excellent visibility, and GREAT windrow distance. In fact, most of the snow from the plow sailed right past the wing at speed. The majority of the snow that the wing had to deal with at speed was just what was in its footprint.
I thought that cleaning up and stacking at intersections would be a problem, but found that to be quite the opposite. The plow stacks great in comparison to the Fisher. I still wonder how it is going to stack up against an icy snow bank.....but time will tell.
My father was able to sneak over to the local scale empty late last week. 12,500 or so with both plows and the vee-box. Not nearly as bad as I thought. Still leaves room for about a yard to a yard and a quarter of material to be COMPLETELY legal. Yeah, it's still overweight with the hopper full, but really, who isn't?
I have a few pics from the storm that I will try and get posted. I also have a few movies. If you really want to see them, PM me and I will e-mail them to you.

nben, looks great. I don't know where you're at, but the 800's are pretty scarce during and after a storm.
As long as you "forget" and leave your spinner idleing should, god forbid, something happens, you'll be all right. Howard Excavating in Hiram has a similar set-up on a Ford 350. Seemed to work great.

Unfortunataly we have one that lives in the next town over from us. We also are very close to the turnpike, and the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot is often found with several of the dark blue fords parked outside. It's not a big deal really, they are just doing there job.
We have previously had the wing set-up on two other 1 ton chasis. They held the weight fine, but were way overloaded. The 15000 GVW chasis helps some, but our next truck will probably be a C5500 or equivalent.

Thanks for the movies.Looks like you are really moving boy that would cut my time down.Only slight drawback is it looks like the new plow causes some snow to go right over the wing and back onto the road. That could be just the high speed you were plowing at ;)

Looks really good hooked up and out there in the snow working. :shades I dont remember if you ever told us or not, but is that truck a diesel or gas? Im thinking its a diesel. If its a gas though, Im assuming its the big block 454? Great set-up, I hope it makes you tons of money! :cash Mike :)

The wider the plow, the deadlier they can become. Someone in an earlier posts warns of full right, and it can send the truck across the road. Try the 11 and 12 footers on the highway dep't, and this statement will make a believer out of you. I've sailed across the road several times over the years. Never hit anything luckily. We did, 12 or so years ago, have a part time driver coming down a steep hill plowing, hit some frozen stuff where a private plower plowed across the road, and send him into an on coming car. Wasn't pretty and was very expensive to the towns insurance.

jt5019, even the Frink wing on my Topkick lets some snow roll over it. Usually at lower speeds, which is most common for us doing low speed drives and developments.
I think nben has the right idea though, the 5500 GMC or Ford 550 is a nice size for that set-up. I would like to think I will be getting one for my next plow-rig.
