Has anyone else done this too? I used 3 inch channel, 1 inch steel rod and 1 inch id pipe, along with 1/4 inch plate total cost was under 40 bucks. But a couple hours time. Here is a closed pic.

Walt- That looks good, can you get a picture of how it mounts to the bed rails and bumper?

John on the bed rails is 1/4 x 3 inch steel. cant remember how long but i udes 2 1/2 inch gr.8 bolts. D.S. has the 1" id pipe welded to it w/a hole through it. Passenger side is the same but has nothing welded to it. As for the bumper side 1/4 inch plate wth the 1" pipe welded on the d.s , and i used 2" square tubing welded to the 1/4 x 3 and used another 1/4 x 3 on top with a hammered down overlap so the mount will slide up on to it. I will try and get some picks fo ya.

Thanks guys for the compliments. Here are some more picks. The welds are kinda poor because it was my first time with a stick welder, but you will notice the good welds that were done with a mig!

Hey Walt- nice job- don't worry about the welds, nothing a little grinding, primer and paint can't take care of! Despite what one person so far has said I'm impressed- it looks good an will definitely do the job, $40, a couple of hours and the feeling you get when finishing the job are definitely worth more than a few hundred dollars spent on a factory mount if you ask me.

Keep up the good work!!

looks good.. just hit it with the grinder a bit and slap some paint on it and it'll look ever better...

That looks really good for a first attempt Walt! Even better considering it was your first time with a stick. I would suggest grinding the surfces before welding, turning up the heat a little bit might help as well.
A grinder and a can of paint later, it will look just like the ones you buy, Great job.
I want to make something similar, but want it to be a bit more discreet, I'm not big on drilling into my bumper or bed rails, I guess I'll either have to get creative, or get over my fear....
How do you like the Buyers Spreader?

Thanks!! I have not had the chance to grind the mount yet, but it has been already planned. One of my friends that is a good welder gave me some pointers on how to improve my welds. As for painting it will be done after winter since i want to us the por-15 and a top coat. I just got the spreader so i do not know how it works. I've got more into it from replacing the motor than i paid for it.

Here is a swing gate I built on a 1 ton dump for the Western Pro Flow 2 spreader I had. I've since sold the truck. We fabbed the swing gate to fit onto the truck just as the tail gate would fit onto the bed. The lights plugged into the trailer plug on the hitch.

Just to let everyone know the spreader mount is holding up. Even filled the spreader to the top with bulk salt and no problems:D I thought for sure the mount would bend some but not yet, even with the traveling down the bumpy roads. Spreader works great!!I know that they are not the greatest but i only have one complaint...... the motor on the bottome of the spreader. Also the salt freezes on the spinner and ocassionally have to whack the spinner to break the salt up. Once in a while the salt gets moisture in the throat and have to manually spin it to get it going.
