Tried doing a search on 680's and 720's (but the search feature won't allow three letter searches... CHUCK - any way to allow three letter searches?)

I bought both new this year. We plowed the most recent storm, about 15 to 18 hours of actual plowing time in the last couple of days on both these plows. Now I notice the 1/4" cutting edge on these blades is smiling significantly and I've got about 1" on the 680 on the one side before the edge is completely used up.

Who else has had to replace these cutting edges, and did you replace with heavier edges? Blizzard only offers 1/4" steel. It was suggested by the dealer that I weld thicker steel to the existing edge (avoiding having to punch/drill holes in new steel). I like a clean look on equipment, not too sure about welding excess steel on the edge. My opinion is that Blizzard should have an edge that will sustain more than 30 hours before it has to be replaced.

I suppose Urethane is an option, but not crazy about it for back dragging and using it on residentials. Not convinced after my last round with urethane on v blades.

Any other steel cutting edge options? Any aftermarket edges out there?

Blizzard has bolt on steel reinforced u-edges.The steel is actually molded in the center,to stiffen and protect the urethane. They work quite well.I'm sure Superior and Blizzard will stand behind the product if your unhappy with it.

You could also try regular urethane. The formulations have changed a lot,and there are different manufacturers on the market since your last experience.Again, most will (and I know Superior will) stand behind the product if you are unhappy. We have a lot of dealers on this site, and most of the info is posted in the dealers forum.

Blizzard does not make a U-edge for the 680 or 720 yet. But they have one for the 760 that you cut down to fit take a look here and you will see a 760 cut down to fit a 720 http://www.snowplowing-contractors.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4951

Doug, I was kinda supprised by the 1/4 " thickness too but it's a weight issue on some of the trucks. For you use I would suggest double thickness of edges for a total of 1/2" on the edge. Will add considerable weight but still less than the U edge.........I've got a 720 left over from a CT install....
