View Full Version : Meyer mini controller

I think I already searched for the answer to this and didn't find it, but that was a long week ago.

I picked up a well-used Meyer mini spreader. The control box has only a couple inches of wire sticking out of it, and I haven't checked it out yet. The motor turns fine with 12 volts applied to it.

The truck it's going on has a controller from an old Western stainless steel mini spreader already installed. That one is simply a switch in the dash, and a big round rheostat (sp?) for speed control. First question is, will the Western controller work ok for the Meyer spreader?

If not, what do the 3 wires on the back of the Meyer controller go to? Two are thick, red in color, and they come out of the box together. The other oner is thin, and also red. Back at the motor there are only the two leads for the motor itself.

As always, thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide. :)

The big wires go to the battery (fused 30 amp),and the other to the motor.Ground the other lead on the motor.

The small red one goes to fused key power.

Ok. I've been messing with it, and it'll work the salter when hooked up directly from battery to controller and then to the motor, with the other motor wire going directly to battery ground. I was gonna put a fuse inline between battery and controller anyway, even though there's a 25 amp fuse, or breaker, in the box itself. What's the purpose of the small wire then?

Chris, you should just post your phone number as a sticky at the top of the board. It'd save everybody a lot of keystrokes...

Thanks. :)

The other wire should go to key power to turn it on.Oh well,as long as it works. :D

Is it to light the dial up?

so when your dash lights are on you can see the 1-9 on the dial?

you might actual hook it to an illumination circuit.

I never did get finished hooking the controller up. (Been preoccupied.) It seemed to work differently depending on which of the two big wires I attached the battery + to. I didn't want to burn up anything electronic inside. Once I get it figured out
I'll post the findings.

What I did do was to go to the hardware store and spend $1.99 on a light switch. That works... :)
