I mounted my new Polar edge last week and while looking it over after the install i don't think it will perform the same way the U edge I had on my Fisher did. The polar edge is made of a harder material and while it may last longer than the steel edge it does not look like it will absorb the small bumps and man hole covers any better than a steel edge. Anyone have a thought on this?
In the past with my Fisher plow and U edge I was able to safely plow faster over my route because the covers that would catch a normal plow edge had no effect on my plow, now that may change

You don't mention what brand edge you ran on your Fisher, Polar Edges are made of a stiffer, denser compound than other brands. I used their product in plowing a subdivision with raised catch basins with no problems at all. These basins were 1 to 2 inches above the pavement and the edge reacted as it would be expected.

I've fitted my Blizzard 810 with the Polar Edge and I'm looking forward to running it. I've got a few gravel driveways that I expect will be much easier to plow than with the steel edge. I don't think you have much to be concerned about.

Joey, Passing 60MPH and still absorbs shocks of potholes and bridge joints, man holes etc.

Jerre

Not that excessive speed is condoned...On the contrary it can be very dangerous...But test case dummies do lots of things out of the norm for alot of other plowers.

I can't remember which one I had on my Fisher, Superior maybe. It was yellow and very flexable. You could bend it in 1/2.

Probably not Superior then,as it's much stiffer.

The Blizzard edge will be even stiffer yet,as it's steel reinforced.I think it will scrape better, the only trade off may be the impact absorption. It still should do better than straight steel.

We currently have one of those edges on one of our 810's.........

I ran it in a 2-4" storm which we had before Thanksgiving.........

One of the accounts which I ran it in was a Gas station with raised filling caps...........

NOT A PROBLEM............

Every brand has different compounds which they mold and most companies vary their compounds based on the edge type too...........

I haven't plowed with mine yet but i have been testing it on wet pavement. It obsorbes impacts real well. and it cleans sand off the shoulders of the highway real nice :D (someone learned not to cut me off)

Here is a cross cut of my edge

I picked up my polar edge last week. Now remember this is coming from some one who sells a competitors brand of edge, in a word impressive. I have not mounted it yet, but everything looks quite stout. Last year on all v plows I specked type 2 edges which would comare with the harder superior compound on the blizzard edge. Add to that the fact that the steel is sandwiched in the edge, and that will add overall ridigity over the width of the edge, yet still allow the urethane on the stepped lower portion to flex. The blizzard is a heavy plow, and needs a stout edge such as the unit superior has developed. The only fact I dont like is the price, but I understand why it is what it is.
Kudos to superior and blizzard.
