When I was a kid, we had a dog. For 13 years we had a Belgian Shepard. Great dog. My mother swore she would never get another one, because there would never be another like him.... She hated cats, until my father brought one home on a frigid winter day. He found her on the side of the road, at work. He thought she was a rat. She was tiny. Mom had to feed her sugar water with an eye dropper, and she slept in a Kleenex box, with room to spare.
Her name is Frosty. Everyone hovered around her, I ignored her. Of course she latched onto me after that. When I moved out, she latched onto mom.
She must have been the runt of the litter, as she is small, only about 8 pounds. She is part Maine Coon.
Here she is from a few years back. She is giving the "mean look"... all 8 pounds of her.
When my brother moved back home, he brought his cat with him. He is an Abyssian (sp?). He is an outdoor cat, that regularly brings home birds and rabbits. He is about 19 pounds, and sleek. He has asthma, so once a year he gets a steroid shot. For a hunter, he has to be the friendliest cat I ever met.
My brother lived on a lake for a while, and his cat grew up there. Taking boat rides, going out to fish, and helping himself to the minnows in the bait bucket. The cat has no fear of water, LOL.

My daughter has a cat, he is a fat cat. He used to open the fridge and help himself. No lie. I had to tie it shut whenver we left the house. Now we have a "side by side" fridge, and he can't figure out how to open it. He is part Maine Coon, and is about 20 pounds. No pic of him.... he is about 9 years old now, and starting to get bony...
Now, my other daughter wanted her own cat, so one day I came home, and my wife picked up a runt at the animal shelter. She is about 6 pounds. Another one... she latched onto me. Follows me around like a dog. Lays at my feet where ever I go in the house. We play fetch. She actually brings back her toy for me to throw!
And of course, here she is giving the mean look.

Nice pictures everyone, and good stories Chuck. :) We have a female dachshund, she is a little overweight, but she is cute as can be otherwise. :D I think you saw her Chuck when you were here, I think my mom let her out while we were in the driveway hangin out. Now talking about cats, my girlfriend was interested in getting a new kitten, so I told her I would take her and get her one when she was ready. Couple weeks ago, a kitten came walking into my shop, cute as hell!!! It was hiding on the side of the building under the weeds, haha. I went and picked it up and brought it inside, I gave him milk and went to the store and bought him some food. He ate and drank the milk like there was no tomorrow. He had some fleas and was a little dirty, but I could tell he would clean up well and be a very cute and lovable kitten. Long story short, I asked my girl if she would like to see him and possibly keep him, she of course said YES!. I told her I would pay for anything he needed to get done at the vet. When she saw him, she fell in love with him immediately. We took him to the vet and got him cleaned up and all, fleas are gone and he loves his new home, at her house. It felt good taking him in and giving him a nice home as opposed to going out and buying one. He would have just died outside, especially with winter coming and all. The vet said he looks to be only 6 weeks old. Mike :)

This is the only pic we have of my fathers adopted cat Butterscotch, who was sitting on my brothers tire. It was a stray that hung around our house for about 2 yrs before my father took a liking to it because it was a survivor. For the next 8 or so yrs he lived in our garage, he was still an outdoor cat but my father would feed him twice a day and brush him in the summer. They got along well, when my father would come home from work, Butterscotch would run down to his truck and walk with my father up the driveway. It was pretty funny to watch, my father this big guy with this silly little cat. Well about six month ago my brother, in the truck pictured above, accidently ran over Butterscotch in the driveway. He was getting old and we all expected him to one day just not come back, but to go the way he did was heartbreaking. My father who would always say, he wouldn't miss him when he was gone, was extremely sad for a few days. He still looks outside in the yard or on the deck waiting for his little buddy to come running up. As sad as it was , this picture brings laughs because my brother who can be quite cold at times sent this picture out to friends and family with the subject line, "Live by the tire, die by the tire."

who needs blankets? Gave up covering everything years ago. A TRUE animal owner is covered in dog/cat/horse/etc. hair. :D

We had to get slip covers for the new furniture because the last set we had the dog destroyed it with their nails, both of the dogs sleep on my parents bed at night, sometimes I'll get up at like 2 o'clock and Dad will be sleeping on the couch because the dog's kicked him out.

Here's a shot of my buddy, DJ. This cat acts more like a dog than a cat, we play fetch with milk jug tabs, a lot of times he'll bring one to me and cry until I throw it for him. He brings it back and drops it at my feet for another throw.
He greets me at the door every time I come home too! We've got a laser pointer that drives him nuts. He'll chase that dot all around, we have to stop when he starts panting from all the running. One trick I play on him is to make the dot disappear under a chair, he'll sit there and wait for it to come out for quite a while!

Great pics everyone. Glad to see so many folks with pets they love and take good care of.... I lost my best friend a year ago tomorrow. He was a lab-golden retriever mix. Probably the best dog I've ever had, (and I've had quite a few). Don't have any pics on the computer to post though. I've got two other meatheads, one a chow mix I rescued from a ditch and the other is my daughter's dog, have no idea what he is! Great dogs though.
