Many of you guys have a full seasons use of the pro plus. How are they working out for you, and have any reliability or strength issues come up? I figured that after a year there should be a pretty good idea as to how western did on this design.
thanks

lookin' good so far! I have at least 175 hours on mine, and it's looking pretty good. It'll need a new edge before too much longer- I'm switching to urethane and adding the wings at that point.

EZ I knew you ran one last year,I've got 15 min on mine!
There is NO comparason to the old pro plow!
I hate to think what it would take to bend this a-frame and quad!
I have the wings but have not gone down the road with them on yet will have to be real carefull!!
Only175 hrs and you need an edge??
The only problem I've had is the pump motor seal was bad from the factory and it leaks fluid on transport, Western knows of this problem, just a quick seal change.

175 is a very conservative estimate based on number of events X average hours to plow my accounts... I also do a little sub work- I really don't keep close enough watch on my hours to know. I have 1.5-2" of wear left.
Only repair I've had is a bent angle cylinder- it was fully extended when I hit something, so I don't think the lack of "stops" would have made any difference.
Do you have the baby backdrag? How much did they soak you for the wings? Just today I ditched the marker flags for a set of the 36" blaze orange poly markers... bigger is better!

EZ,you bent an angle cylinder:eek: .Did you pay for that or did they cover it?. I understand that it was fully extended, ive hit things in full scoop position with my western V,and the relief has always blown off before any damage. It has thrown me hard though. You might want to check your blow off pressures. I also thought the pro plus uses a big cylinder dont they?

well, I was running a soft curbline on my left, with the blade angled full right. I was plowing downhill, "leaning" against the curb, as the contractor I was subbing for doesn't mark any of his properties... Anyway, there was a storm drain (with the fins angled to catch the downhill-flowing water) that caught my plow- just that leading corner. I was going 10mph or so, but there was 9000# hitting on that corner! Anyway, the best I can figure, the plow didn't have the opportunity to popoff, as it was hard up against that curb- nowhere to go, not enough room for the blade to rotate. And because the hit was predominately on the end of the blade, it couldn't trip. What it did do, was STOP!
I hit my head on the roof, and everything that was on a seat or cupholder or above the visor was promptly liberated from its position and relocated to the floor. I think some stuff even got tossed backward off the dash. It was not pretty, and I was less than pleased with the gentleman for whom I was working. Brand-new truck + brand-new plow + first storm + big hit = ticked-off subcontractor.
I think that's how I bent the cylinder, and yes, they are BIG. My Pro-Plow wouldv'e crumpled like a tin can.
Oh- the funniest part was that this was in an upscale retirement community- duplexes and such. After I'd collected myself and was out of the truck surveying for damage, I noticed the door of the nearest home opening... old lady comes out in her nightie - probably to see how big the meteor was that just landed in the street!
BTW- I did pay for it, I probably should have tried to get it done under warranty, but I wimped out and paid it.

EZ yea I got the backdrag edge, Like I said haven't used it yet.
The wings are around $325.00 a set.
I use the standard flags till they break or get ripped off on a fence, then I also put on the long orange ones also.
Can't wait to try the plow with the wings,on the larger lots.

When you get the chance to try out the backdrag edge, post something. I can't help but wonder how effective it is.

I really hope that this season goes better for you with no further incidents like that one. I also hope that you are either not subbing for that contractor anymore, or he has started marking his accounts for you. From the way that you described that it sounded like one hell of a hit. But look on the bright side. You gave that nice old lady something to tell all of her friends about for at least the next week.
Best of luck to all and thanks for the replies.

There was some discussion on how the edge would load up or pack with snow, we'll see.
My old 8.5 Pro Plow did very well and, I had a heavy edge on it.
This pc is just bent back to the rear, to help scrape up better.
Any body want some new Plow Shoes?
Oh and guess what they are made in CHINA !!!!!

Shoes... I dumped 'em as soon as I got home! My truck isn't "supposed" to have a 8.5 pro+,so I figure if I took the shoes ff, it would weigh the same as an 8-footer with the shoes on, right?:greenange
I've kept them, and will probably use them when I swap for urethane, but only to keep the edge up during storage.
I have two 9' Pro Plus plows. They are wonderful. They make my Meyer look like nothing.
I am able to push more snow easier and The plow handles awsome.
